I found 7-zip to be a good compression software it free and it file size for the current one is about a 1m. It has a wide support for common compression format like .rar and .zip and in addition to it native 7z which has a high compression ratio.

Virtualbox is a good virtualization software. it useful for check linux distro without have to mess with you current installation. It require a bootable installation media cd however it can use cd images directly. It also has mutli-core and 64 bit support although you need a capable cpu to do it. You need virtualation support on the cpu and that enable for multi core and a 64 capable cpu for 64bit support though a 64bit operating system is not require for the 64 bit support according to the help.

For RAM Disks, I use ImDisk (it's opensource, free)
    http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/#ImDisk

It's tiny, has no noticeable impact on performance on any of my machines, and is easy to manage. When it installs, you'll find the RAM disk manager under the Windows Control Panel. Download is ~3MB if I remember correctly.

This thing saves me a lot of pointless writes to my HDD when compressing files for upload to MU, RS, BF, iFile, etc. Of course, you'll want 4GB RAM or more for this to be useful.
Software efficiency halves every two years, thus compensating for Moore's Law.

It's not allowed to request apps that you have to pay for, only free/shareware programs are allowed. Please, read the forum rules if you haven't done it yet.

As a PSA, I would like to warn users of CNETs downloaders/installers to please thoroughly read through the dialogs presented during the installation process; they have a bad habit of packing in extra toolbars and accessories some may miss by simply next'ing through everything, or not watching for stray checkboxes. This ends up being the cause of a lot of "my computers too slow i dunno why fix it" scenarios I've noticed.
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

The list in this thread is outdated anyway. This page is regularly updated, well categorized and has all freeware listed:
