Default Playstation Emulators - which is best for sprite captures?

    Hello, all!

I'm interested in doing some sprite captures from PlayStation games, but isolating sprites from normal screencaps is akin to spending time in the fifth circle of hell. Does anyone know of a PlayStation emulator capable of disabling background layers (i.e., making the screen black except for player and enemy sprites)? SNES emulators are perfectly capable of doing this, but I haven't found any info regarding such a feature for PSX emulators.

Or, does anyone know if there's a utility for viewing sprites directly from PSX game CDs?

Things like that would most likely be compiled into a file that is specifically designed to not be able to get into, except when the Game is running.

But if you mount the ISO image on DaemonTools, you might be able to find/get the sprites out.

That is, if they are in a standardized format for an image.

they might be in a strange format that you cant open, even if you could acess them.

I dont know of any specific utilities though. Good luck

Well, you can get converters/viewers for TIM from Zophar's domain, you "merely" need to extract said files from the game. Which, depending on the way files are stored, could be rather troublesome.

I use a program called PSX Ultra Ripper. First, convert your iso to .bin file and let the program scan it. After that, you can open view some of them even extract them in a proper format. Sometimes this program crashes but it still does the job. I included the download link on where you can get the file:

    Hope this works for you.

Many thanks for the responses. Arcsy, I'll give that program a try.

Cube Media Player FTW. Gamingforce is almost pitifully easy to understand. They explain in great detail how to get to the videos & music on the disc. As usual Square games have some sort of encryption. A few games still have files you can't extract, but very few games.
