Default Music to listen to while driving.

OK, so I would like some recommendations of music to listen to whilst driving/in a car.

Me and my group of friends fill our cars and take a hour's drive to Hull to meet some other friends who live there for cinema/bowling/bar/arcades/partying. Every week someone has their turn to play some music for the journey there, this weekend it's my turn. There will be guys and girls in the car if that helps with the recommendation.

My taste in music is.. nerdy, for want of a better phrase. Although I wouldn't mind taking some J-pop, something really cool. Anything goes really, although any heavy emo/goth stuff is out, it's been done to death already.

So what are your favorite tunes to listen to whilst driving?

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Chemical Brothers or Daft Punk. It's a physical impossibility. If you're looking for rock/pop music though... what kind of bands are you into? Reel off some names and I'll see what comes to mind.

Slayer and Death are all you need when driving.

Though those fall under the heavy category so I guess those are out. You can try instrumental music.. guitarists like Marty Friedman and Pat Metheny have much variation in their stuff and are great to listen to even when not driving. Some house/trance music could do you good as well, but I'm not into electronic music enough to provide recommendations.

Old 80's music. Classic rock of any kind will do.

The Beast and The Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold.

Okay, bad idea...well..yeah, I'm with Evans here, old 80's rock. I remember driving to some girl friend house listening "I don't wanna lose your love tonight" by The Outfield.

Maybe GTA VC had something to do with it.

I might add "Working for the weekend" by Loverboy.

I forgot "Days Go By" - Dirty Vegas

Kraftwerk (Computer World or Autobahn), LCD Soundsystem (45:33), Primal Scream (Screamadelica), Happy Mondays (Anything but their last ditch effort), The Modern Lovers (Self-titled), DJ Shadow (...Endtroducing), Junior Boys (Any), and Nick Drake (Pink Moon).

This is all I can think of at the moment.

    Some Way Out West

(The song from the Juiced ad.)

Something a bit more chilled, like Booka Shade
    http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=vCGo7Ve8qdQ

And if that's totally not their kind of music, Bob Marley or UB40 usually seem to work. Or if it's not played out already, Californication by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Everyone likes that.

Tier one consists of Beck's Odelay and Hella's Hold Your Horse Is.

Tier two consists of The New Pornographers' Twin Cinema and Spoon's Girls Can Tell.

Ahem, the answer is simple. Randy. Always Randy. The album You can't keep a good band down, in particular. Can't go wrong there, right for every occasion.

Edit: Oh, and I've always enjoyed listening to them Ramones while on roadtrips for some reason. But maybe that ain't edgy enough? =<

    Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.

If you're into J-pop you might like the Pillows. Plenty of albums, hard to pinpoint their sound, plenty of variety. Might find something you like ; P

For driving music, it's hard to go past either mid-tempo electronic stuff (I'll leave the specifics to someone else, my knowledge of it doesn't go very far), post-rock ala GY!BE and Mono, or some stoner-influenced rock/metal.

I prefer the stoner stuff myself. It's just fun music for driving. A nice mix of laid-back fuzz and upbeat atmosphere.

Try some Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Obiat, Orange Goblin, Acid King, etc.
