    Default Burning games with CDDA

Any game I try to burn that contains lots of tracks for CD audio has big problems when I try to run the burned CD. pSX plays fine for the first few seconds, then once a moment that should trigger a CDDA track starts the dos box loads up with a "incorrect function" error and just keeps right on going. Other sound effects work, just not the music.

In particular, I've been having problems with Die Hard Trilogy and Twisted Metal. I'm burning in Alcohol and I AM loading the .ccd file like proper. Here's how the information looks before the burn:

    Type: CloneCD Image file
    Path: C:\DHT\
    Name: DHT.ccd
    DHT.img
    DHT.sub
    Size: 553.38 MB

It only works from a virtual drive, on pSX & ePSXe, cdda that is. (I think)

If you're not using original hardware there's no need to burn them.

I'm really only looking for a practical way of storing a built up collection of backup games and imports. My initial thoughts were to just burn them to CD-R and store them in those cheap CD "wallets". You know, like the ones Wal-Mart sell?

    Like this: http://www.karaoke-tutor.com/wallet.gif

Then just put on some labels and inserts on the stuff I really like. But I'm open to any other good ideas. I have a spare 40 GB hard drive I could format and just use solely for ISO images.

I know that's way off topic, I'm just trying to explain my motives for messing with this stuff when I can just go daemon-tools on anything that doesn't work right. I get a feeling there's something I need to change in the .ccd/.cue files, I'm just not sure what...

Personally, I rar them up, then burn them to CD/DVD for storage.

You can fit between 2-5 PSX games on one CD if you compress them.

Then when I want to play, I just unrar them back to the hard drive.

Post the contents of a cue you think needs something changed. One of the image masters can tell you if something's wrong. (me, maybe)

If you have a DVD-RW drive, then you could burn uncompressed disc images to a DVD (data dvd), and play them in your emulator from the disc.

Or, that hard drive, sounds like a good idea. But maybe a larger one?

Here's what's going on with the ccd. It's long as hell though because of all the audio tracks.

According to the compatibility list, pSX emulator doesn't play Die Hard Trilogy NTSC perfectly:
    http://psx.silvanthalas.com/psx.html

No mention of Twisted Metal NTSC, but the PAL version also has minor glitches.

Also, are you using the latest version, which is 1.12?
    http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/

If I were you, I'd go with ePSXe for these 2 games; I know Twisted Metal works perfectly with ePSXe.

1.12 is the version I have. I tested the games on epsxe with the same issues. The obvious bugs aren't there but the audio is still practically nonexistent on both games.

What gets me is that if I were to mount them on a virtual drive, they'd play just fine!

    Well, duh.

By mounting on a virtual drive, you load both the data and audio (CDDA) tracks into epsxe.

When you just use Run ISO with epsxe, you only load in the data track.

pSX differs in that when you load the cue sheet, you load all the tracks listed in the cue sheet, so that's why there's no need to use Daemon Tools.

I mean as in running the burned CDs. But how come when I burn that exact same image, neither emulator will load the tracks at all? As if it were just "running ISO" even though ALL the data is on the disc? I'm sorry if I just sound completely ignorant, and you're help is genuinely appreciated, but it really is an honest question. Just what is the technical part of this that just makes it "not work"?

I like your previous idea about burning compressed files onto the same disc. It's different than what I had pictured but it makes the most out of a lot of excess space and is pretty cost efficient overall. I think in the next week or two I'll just invest into another hard drive, set to slave making it exclusively for everything emulation-related.

Oh, you mean it's happening with the burned CD's?

For pSX, try changing the Driver and Subcode setting under File > Configuration > CDROM.

For ePSXe, what CDRom plugin are you using, and what are it's settings?

With pSX it does support CDDA tracks when loading images directly. There is an issue where a lot of games with CDDA tracks will not work correctly from a disc but will work perfectly from an image. I have this issue with my Greatest Hits version of Tomb Raider. pSX added CDDA support as of version 1.8 and has always worked with cue/bin, CloneCD and ISO images and as of 1.12 has added support for mds/mdf images.

We recommend you play from an image anyway since those are read from the hard drive, which reads alot faster than reading from a CD with its loading times. (you will notice it when the game stalls at certain times trying to read from the CD)

I use CD/DVDs as storage anyways, I rather not use them to play games from since that only wears them down eventually, same with the CD/DVD drive. Only times they are used is to copy stuff from hdd to CD/DVD and vice versa. Minimum hassle
