Cool n64-era 3d games in MAME?

yeah i want to run San Francisco Rush 2097 or whatever it's called - but the arcade version. I already have the n64 version running. and it'd also be cool to get soul calibur and/or the time crisis series or whatever.

i see MAME roms that claim to be these games on several sites including rom-world (emuparadise doesn't have MAME roms - or at least i haven't seen any - hope I'm not breaking any rules by mentioning another rom site) but they look alot smaller than I'd expect a 3D videogame like, for example, Time Crisis 2 which was ported to the Playstation 2, to be. and they don't work in MAME. (either they aren't even in the games list or some error about not being able to initialize Direct3D comes up) whats going on here? basically my question is "how can i play san fransisco rush 20xx arcade version when that isn't in MAME32's list of games?"

If its not in the list its a pretty good sign that its unemulated.

Just because something isnt emulated dosent mean that someone hasnt dumped the rom.

The MAME agreement means that they wait a certain amount of years before emulating it.

    Not only that,
but some games are just harder to emulate.

STV,Naomi, some of the model systems, and more,
aswell as stacks of standalone PCB's
    that still arnt emulated.

If you cant wait for it to be emulated,
    buy it.

Super gun + TV + jamma boards = the answer.

That's very interesting. Where/what is this MAME agreement thing?

Try googling "MAME agreement" as I'm not entirely sure on all the rules.

But I think its three years after a game leaves arcades.

So three years after the conpany stops making money off of the game,
it can be made available for MAME.

    Although I might be wrong.

The "MAME Agreement" as you call it is that no game will be emulated unless it's either 3 years old, or no longer produced, whichever comes last.

So, if a game is 3 years old, but still being produced, then it won't be emulated until after it's also no longer produced.

And if a game is no longer produced, but less than 3 years old, then again it won't be emulated until after it's also 3 years old.

    Cool

well, that's annoying. i guess it does make sense though.

still, i'm sure san francisco rush is way more than 3 years old and i'm pretty sure they don't make it anymore.

It's over 10 years old actually.

And it's been playable in MAME for awhile now:

    Oh.
He didn't include the 2049 in his last post.

Well, that one is also in MAME, but it's not yet playable.
And since the MAME devs aren't too interested in optimizing MAME for speed, don't expect newer games to be playable at a decent speed with MAME any time soon.

More than likely, somebody will eventually make a stand-alone emulator for just that game (and it's clones) or for that game's specific type of hardware (like how Kawaks is for NeoGeo, CPS1 & CPS2)

So for now, you'll have to play the N64 version, or maybe the DC one.

You need to have both all the necessary rom files inside the zip file and the CHD file for that game.

This is the most reliable source for MAME rom and CHD files that I know of:
