pSXFin is the most accurate emulator.
ePSXe is the most graphically enhancing emulator.
    PSXEven is good apparently.

Try saving & loading like this:

Press ESC to exit the game and bring up the ePSXe window.
Go to Run > Save State > Slot 1.

Then when closing ePSXe, always use File > Exit to make sure it exits properly.

And to load the save state, try Run > Load State > Slot 1.

It isn't recommmended that you use save states at all. If you can use the memory card saves as save states can easily become corrupted.

Most of those games work with savestates (at least in my experience. It may be that my setup is significantly different to yours) but it's not a guaranteed thing.

I've never seen a savestate get corrupted aside from when they were used along with memory card saves so I find them pretty reliable, but memory card saves are certainly better even if they aren't as convenient.

    Nope this didn't work.
    Thnks for the help anyway.
Maybe I just shouldn't use it.
It is nice to use save states when you get to a place in a game where you get stuck all the time and is difficult to pass.

I save state can get corrupted if the memory data that was used to save it in the first place was corrupted in some way such as a problem with emulator at the time to save state was made. This will just be reloaded when you load the save state and cause all kinds for problems. Although save states have become more reliable, it is still best to use memory card saves as your main save option.

I understand how it works (I'm familiar with programming in general and I've been burned by that problem with N64 savestates fairly often), I just haven't seen it happen more than once or twice when it comes to ePSXe.

It depends on the game you are playing
I tried it now in Metal Gear Solid and the Save State worked.
    Crash Bandicoot didn't work.

I tried pSXFin, but the grafix doesn't look good, and I don't see that you can configure it.

Normally, as long as the iso/bin has a .cue file, when the save state is loaded, the music continues. However, for games that lack a .cue file, the music does not continue when the state is loaded. I say this out of experience.

What exactly happens, or in this case, doesn't happen, when you try to save state? Does it not save at all or is it unable to load?

The most accurate meaning was it emulates it well, doesn't try and make the graphics look "ub0r s3><4y" in other words. It doesn't enhance the graphics; other than higher resolution.

pSX is what you would see if you were able to plug your original PlayStation up to a VGA monitor. Meaning yes the graphics really do look that bad it's just not as obvious when viewing it through a composite video connection on your TV.

When you save it doesn't save, it doesn't highlight a slot in LOAD STATE but as I said MGS worked.

Sp it is something like, old dos games doesn't look good on your pc, but I connected my pc to the tv once and played a few games and you must see the improvement, it actually looks good.

The TV actually blurs the image a bit, hideing the imperfections in the video signal. So what you're seeing in pSX is the "better" image then if you were playing on a real PlayStation connected to your TV. By "better" I mean that the image is exactly as the PlayStation renders it before it is passed to the A/V cable. It's a bit complicated to explain. pSX is aiming for accuracy not enhancement like ePSXe and other plugin based emulators. That's also why you can't play LibCrypt protected games in pSX unless you are using the original disc or have an image that contains the subcode from the original.
