I don't know anything about these sorts of things, but I would tell you to try out project 64.

Get PJ64 1.6. It is the best N64 emulator by far.

Project64, 1964, and Mupen64 are the 3 best N64 emulators, and in that order.
I suggest you get and familiarize yourself with all 3.
Since there are a few games which play better with 1964 & Mupen64 then they do with Project64.
