It's actually a matter of opinion.

People say that the Soft plugin is best for games that are in 2D (like the KoF games) and the other plugins are best for 3D games, which is what FF8 is.

People also say that if you have an older or integrated graphics card, which is what you have, then you should stick with the Soft plugin for everything.

Then there's the matter of compatibility, with the Soft plugin handling the most games

But there's also the appearance of the graphics, and here some people prefer how the D3D or OpenGL plugin makes the graphics look over how the Soft plugin does it.

Personally, I like using the Soft plugin for 2D games, and the D3D one for 3D games.
On my old comp that had an even older Intel GFX card then yours, it could handle the D3D plugin just fine, so for FF8, I recommend that one.

But if you have problems or don't like it, then try the Soft plugin.

You can get all the plugins from here:

The soft plugin gives a more authentic look that show what the PSX really looks like (or at least as close to the real thing as it can get). All the other plugins use enhancements to "improve" the graphics and visual effects. They also consume a lot more processor power because of it.

hey lol whoops all i needed to do was set fps limit to 60 and now it runs good untill i get somewhere past the SeeD mission then the music starts to run about 10% slower and i can really notice the difference. Its getting quite annoying so i would like to find out how to fix this. Oh heres my Vid settings for now. Plugin: Pete's D3D Driver 1.1.76

    Try turning off Frame Skipping.

    Also change your resolution to 840 x 630 (always keep the resolution at a 4:3 ratio -- 840 / 4 = 210, 630 / 3 = 210)

If that doesn't work, then try these:
Reduce Texture Quality, then Framebuffer textures, then Texture filtering, then Hi-Res textures.

I still say switch to Pete's Soft Plugin becasue I had speed issues running on an Intel Graphics card when using the D3D or OGL plugins myself but yeah I guess disabling Frame Skipping might work too.
