Default Creater of Ocarina of Time 2D has died

Richard Denton (aka Dampe) creator of the long awaited fan-made 2D Ocarina of Time, died Friday in tragic car accident. Tales of the game had been floating around the internet for a long time and many people were looking forward to trying out Barras' handywork. His goal was to create a faithful recreation of Ocarina of Time in an olde school 2D Zelda style. An official website and forums were posted so that Barras and his fans could discuss the details ongoing project.

He was probably bullshitting the whole time, and just faked his death so he could stop production without people getting angry.

Darth, it's not a joke or a hoax.

You can still download what he managed to finish from his project here:

*previous statement retracted--it was Richard Denton, not Daniel Barras who has been reportedly killed.*

What, the OoT 2D project is dead?

    NNNOOO!

Eh, I'm thinking the author simply decided to abandon ship and is faking a death just to get out of it. This "police report" sounds oddly accurate, and I don't know about you, but were I to be picked off randomly my last words would probably involve some random bullshit. Also, it looks like his "coworkers" on the project are using it as an excuse to drop everything. And there was apparently a "demo" supposed to be coming out soon. I smell a conspiracy.

Also, if I now have to see "RIP teh zelda 2D creatorz" in every sig ever, I will murder someone.

Well, I've had my daily dosage of emo from that thread.

    EDIT-

His age is being falsely reported by people who are supposedly close to him. Again, bullshit sense, tingling!

If he was close enough to call, you'd figure he'd know the dude's age.

It looked a promising game, it's a sad loss for both his family and the emulation scene.

    CORRECTION:

It wasn't Daniel Barras who was reportedly killed.

It was Richard Denton, and he may have only been 15.

I'm trying to find out more about this--sorry about the mistake.

They trash all of his work because he supposedly died? Right. I would like to think that if I ever got around to doing anything important, those who knew me would keep my legacy alive by continuing on in my place.

I know that's not enough of a reason to call bullshit here, but I'm thinking that the project got to be too much for the guy, so he faked his death instead of manning up and telling everyone that he didn't realize what he was getting himself into.

If he actually died, well then, his family has my condolences I guess. I didn't know the guy for shit, but even so, loss sucks and all that.

So, statistically, what're the chances of a computer nerd dying within 43 minutes of logging into his site?

    Actually, according to this post:
    http://z14.invisionfree.com/Ocarina_...opic=1156&st=0

He was killed on March 21st at around 4 P.M.

Which means he died 7 hours BEFORE someone last logged on to his forum using his account.

Before you all say "AHA!! Knew it was fake!", keep in mind that someone, like maybe his family, could have logged in using his account if they knew the password.

Although I can't think of any reason why they would.

And the fact that Apr. 1st is just a few days from now is making me suspicious too.

    edit--
    Could somebody fix Jackofdiamonds' post?

He has the wrong name there--Daniel Barras.

    It should be Richard Denton.

Well at least one person in his family is familiar with the site I guess. Still wouldn't see why anyone would have account access though. Nor can I tell if there were any posts made by dampe around the time of the accident, since they deleted the entire forum and the new one has apparently been "taken down" so if anyone can point it it's BS for sure, they're clearly not able to do so in a OoT 2d related forum.

The official police record has read that Richard was hit by a car that
had swerved on the wet road, the car WAS NOT speeding. Richard was knocked unconscious and shortly after passed away.
As was said earlier, this is a bit too spot-on for your average police report. Look them up. You'll never see something like that. They'll just say something along the lines of "So-and-so was struck by a car on such-and-such road at approximately such-and-such time. So-and-so was treated by paramedics at the scene at such-and-such time, or so-and-so was declared dead at the scene by paramedics who attempted to treat him." They never says bullshit like "So-and-so was struck by a car that swerved on the wet, rain-slicked street. The car wasn't speeding. Oh, and by the way, so-and-so's last words were to his girlfriend. He said he loved her. How poetic."

Really, I hate to be a dick. I really do. However, this just reeks of BS to me. I really do think that the guy got in over his head, and after a few years of stringing along those interested in his project, he thought that the only way out would be to off himself, rather than admit that he may have taken on a project out of his league. That, or it's yet another unimaginative April Fool's prank. How many people die on or just before April Fools, only to be revealed alive later? Far too many for me to swallow this.
