Until someone posts a real solution to save in a "real" way, I'd suggest using Savestates. I'm not into emulation on PC, so I dont really have more to suggest.

This is a problem VBA has with several game. It isn't detecting the game's save type correctly. The only real way to fix this is to override VBA's auto detection with a vba-over.ini file. Information about this file can be found in the readme that came with the emulator. If you still need help after reading the readme feel free to ask me. I am the master of this problem on 1emulation.

Oh yeah that's right the last version to come out with a readme file was beta 1 I think and it just used the one from 1.7.2. try downloading one of those versions for the readme.

do a real save and then do a save state, so the state will be after the "real" save has taken place.

You have to delete all the save files (both save states & "real" saves) for Tactics Ogre, then with vba-over.ini in the VBA folder, start a new game.

Search the folder where you have the rom for files with extensions (.sgm and .sav) and delete those files.

If that entry is already in the vba-over.ini file that you have the just place the vba-over file in the same directory as VBA and delete the current .sav file that VBA has already created so it can make a new one with the new save setting.

Alright then, let's start from scratch.

    Download vba-over.ini from here:
    http://www.epforums.org/local_links.php?catid=5

Unzip it and put the .ini file in the same folder where you have the VBA emulator. If you're asked if you want to overwrite a file that's already in there, choose YES.

Go into the rom folder and delete every Tactics Ogre file with these extensions:
    .sav & .sgm.

Now start VBA & load the Tactics Ogre rom to begin playing it.

First chance you get in the game, try making a "real" save to see if it works.

It might also be a good idea if you set VBA to use a seperate folder for all of your saves. I have my copy set to put all my saves in a "saves" folder in the same folder as it so I can manage them easier intead of having to hunt them down when ever I load a rom from a random location just to try it out.
