Default How to use controller in Mame32?

I just got Mame32, and I really like it, but how would you set up your controller buttons? In fact, I can't even play the game because there isn't a keyboard option, and no button config for my controller. Can someone help me out here? I'm a first-time MAME user for PC.

I believe that should do the trick. You have to set the controller up within each game, but that should be a problem. If it doesn't help, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Cool, thanks for the help, but there's still no way to actually assign buttons manually. All I see is button profiles like "NeoGeo" and "HotRod". I also found the corresponding ini files. Can I assign buttons by editing the ini's? Also, how would I set up special things, like the knob and trigger button in Tron?

Yeah, like I said, you need to set up each game up individually. To do this, you load up the rom, and then hit whatever hotkey brings the menu up to change your controller configuration. From there, you can set each game up exactly as you want to.

you could try hitting "tab" in game,
and go to config for this game.

Wow, that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks. But Tron is hard to control...

Also in mame32 before you load a rom highlight the rom and right click. Then select properties, click controllers tab, click enable joystick input or if you want the keyboard to work click enable steadykey support. These options auto configure the controller and keyboard. After loading the rom you can also manually set keys by hitting tab like you know too.

I didn't know that either... thanks for telling me about that too! I was wondering why it was set to the keyboard
