When it comes to rpg for psp, I did like Monster Hunter.
Other good games will be Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Tactics Ogre: Lets Cling Together, Star Ocean, God Eater and many more.

    Default RPG Suggestions.

    Hey guys.

So I just finished some RPG games and am left with nothing to do. I was wondering if you guys could suggest some cool RPG games with epic story lines. I would like to recommend you suggest a game with the same genre of Chrono Cross. What I like about Chrono cross is not only the epic story line but also the No-random battle mode. I like to play those kind of games 'cuz I really hate enemies just popping-out of your screen after 5~8 steps ._." Thanks

No-random encounter? Try Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, Legend of Mana, Persona 3, Tales of... series, Lufia 2: The Rise of Sinistrals, SaGa II, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden Tierkris and some more.

I haven't played ChronoCross in a long time, but AFAIK it DID have a random encounters, Chrono Trigger didn't.

As for playing for the storyline:

Dragon Quest V Remake for PS2 (It's a Dragon Quest, what elese to say..that it's even better than the original and DS remake)
Suikoden V (Great storylinie and memorable characters)
Dragon Quest VIII (It's a Dragon Quest, what elese to say..)
Tales of the Abyss (No random encounter AFAIK, great storyline)
Atelier Iris 3 (No ramdom encounters AFAIK, a bit on anime side but has nice storyline and music themes)

Unfortunately most of those games have random encounters, but the storyline is so good that you may forget about them.

Yeah, a lot of good rpgs have random encounters. Comes with the territory.

Also, most JRPGs are going to be on the "anime side".

Anyway, it has random encounters but I recommend SMT: Digital Devil Saga. It had a different name in JP and PAL land. Something like Avatar Tuner iirc.

To anyone who is as foolish as me and has put off playing it as long as I have, I highly recommend "Planescape: Torment". Easily one of the best PC (or any kind of) RPGs I've ever played. Great dialogue, storytelling, world, lore, and humor. Play it!!!

What about the Langrisser series, Shining Force, Ogre Battle, there are some other quality series out there.

    ^

Most of the Langrisser games were never brought over and I can't remember which received fan translations.

    Also Tactics Ogre for sure.

PS2: Disgaea 1-2, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, Soul Nomad and the World Eaters
    PS3: Valkyria Chronicles, Diagaea 3-4

If you are hardcore the Spectral games as well.

I'd start with Valkyria Chronicles. It has some other gameplay elements but it's a great game imho.
