Bonus questions. Is Suikoden V worth playing? I've started it long time but all I remember is 'door <loading> wrong room, door <loading>, door <loading> ok, going out <loading>, fight <loading>, after battle <loading><loading>'. So I just stopped after hour.
have you tried ff tactics or ogre battle/tactics ogre?
other games that come to mind:
    legend of legaia
parasite eve (more upgrading guns though)
    vagrant story
    star ocean: the second story
and by default, I have to recommend xenogears (but it's not so much skill mastery points as mastering skills through proficiency).

The DS Castlevania games. All three of them are awesome. The first one (Dawn of Sorrow) has some annoying touchscreen crap, but otherwise they're great.

The first one was actually my favorite, then again I liked how they implemented the touch screen function into the game.

I'll look into the castlevania DS games. I was never a huge fan of castlevania, but I did like symphony of the night and the first for NES was good.

Personally, Order of Ecclesia is my favorite, but I'd recommend starting with Dawn of Sorrow. That's the one that felt the most like SotN to me, so if you're looking for something like that, go with DoS.

    Aria of Sorrow all day.

That being said all the GBA and DS Castlevania games are freaking fantastic. It'd be hard to rank them all.

I agree, thought I didn't like the shift in art direction between Aria and Dawn of Sorrows.
