I've been hearing my friends swoon after playing Call of duty 4 (them being immediate fanboys after playing it.) So is the Hype all worth it? (Am thinking of playing it/buying it.)

Alright, I need one game to beat before college starts for me (Jan. 10).

I would prefer an RPG type game, with emphasis on character development.

Although strategy based RPG's work too.

For either PC (basically anything but the most recent games. I can run Bioshock fairly well, but would rather play a somewhat older game for smooth performance), or any emulatable console, other than Dreamcast.

I've played most/all of the PSX gems, so don't even bother trying the big names.

Elder Scrolls are a given, Kotor's same. Been through both Dungeon Siege games with expansions. Civ's are cashed. I've even taken X-men Legends 2 out.

    Help is appreciated

Ninja Edit: No Final Fantasy. Beaten Der Langrisser. Inindo. Earthbound.

Though I haven't played Mother 3. Heard about a translation recently I will have to google into.

If we're throwing in PC games, I'd rank the Baldurs Gate games and Planescape: Torment ahead of the Fallout games.

But they're all golden, and I suspect you agree.

COD4 is amazing. Don't miss out on it, and don't listen to the hype.

Ya know, I've never played Planescape. I should really give it a whirl.

And I definitely agree with Nirvana. CoD4 is amazing, especially online.

Somehow, neither Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment pulled me into the game. They seemed like games for hardcore RPG-lovers. They also put me off playing D&D games.

Yeah, I had the first Baldurs Gate for PC when it came out, but I couldn't get into it. I love rpg's too. I think I was just used to Diablo and NoX style rpg's, where it's fast paced and without 'turns' and stuff. Neat game though.

I suppose that had something to do with it. Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment seemed to slow for me. And Planescape had next to no fighting for the little time I played it. I prefer games where you can go slaughter a bunch of enemies to get your experience, not choosing dialog options.

I am looking for a new game to play myself. Either a RPG (something like xenogears IE: great in dept storyline and maybe some mechs)

Or something like Ace Combat (4,5, or Zero)a (I guess it would be a air fighting sim?) with a good storyling and a nice selection of fighters

Well I am stuck to anything that can be emulated and PC

(PS: My system can't really handel ps2 emu, but emu that system is stillbuggy at best)

    Need New Sig

I've always been fond of Dragon Warrior 7, but I suspect you already know about that one.

How about Saga Frontier 2? A lot more open-ended than FF, but recognisably in the same style of JRPG.
