Default MAME versions and ROM compatibility problems

    Hi Ho
I have read some things about this issue, but somehow I still do not get it.
What I DO know is that I need the right rom versions for the emulator corresponding in the aspect of release date.
For example, there is the question, how to find out wether a certain rom works with a certain version of a certain emulator and vice versa.

    Now to my specific problem:
I have MAMEoX running on my XBOX. After trying fbaxxx-pro and KawaX this is the only emu that I can play some games on. Many do not show up or give the "missing files" error.
My MAMEoX is the version called: "MAMEoX_v0.84.b3_Lightgun"
The strange thing is that I recently d/l some MAME roms from a source which was said to have very recent files. This source cannot be posted due to the [rollback] data loss. I do not know it.

So the question I ask is:
"Where can get roms compatible with my emulator, or which emulator is compatible with my roms (d/l date: 01.Sep.2006) ?

    www.romcenter.com

That application is able to scan roms and check, and sometimes fix them so that they work on several versions of MAME/other emulators. Read the forums there.

If you're having problems with RomCenter, then try ClrMamePro:
    http://www.clrmame.com/download.htm

It does pretty much the same thing as RomCenter, but ClrMamePro was designed for MAME.

And ClrMamePro can create the datfile from the MAME.exe file.

    Hi Ho
thx, segnin. But I am having problems with MameoX, which means clrmamepro cannot create a datfile from an .xbe file. And there seems to be no datfile for mameoX on the net.
Could anyone help me out with the datafile or give me the Metal Slug roms compatible with MameoX v.84.3b ?
I already downloaded a romset packed together with MameoX, but strangely the most popular games like metal slug are missing. (It was the Big Ass Emulation Disc -BAED disc1. I think I will try BAED disc2 as well, even though it seems to be the same roms packed with FBA-XXX)

You need to find a copy of MAME 84.3 or one of the unofficial builds like MAME32 that will work with ClrMamePro, to create a datfile.

    I can't find 84.3, but I did find 84.2 here:
    http://www.megagames.com/news/show.c...ion=downloads&

Most of the roms for 84.3 should be the same as 84.2, but there will be a few differences, so make sure you make backup copies of all your roms, before you scan them with ClrMamePro and the datfile for 84.2.

    Hi Ho
    Thank you for your efforts!
But I d/l the other arcade disc, which contains all the classics I desired.
It is the BAED3arcadeDiscB (with FBA-XXX) from the tracker at xbox.udp.at
for all who want to play the modern arcade classics on XBox.
