    Default Problem with my dreamcast

    Hi

I am currenly having a small problem with my dreamcast, it will load up a game as far as the little dreamcast logo then simply go back to the dreamcast logo I was thinking I just need to tune my laser, but would like some confirmation on the matter. Thanks in advance.

Does it only happen with one game? If your PC can handle it, test the image with Chankast, or some sort of program that would check the image for any errors. If all that is well, then yeah, it's probably the DC itself that has problems.

Is this with a burned game or an original? If the laser wasn't reading, I would think it would go to the settings screen where you have the 4 icons for setting the time, managing the memory card, etc...

Well its happened with every game I've tried and at the same point every time. I'll have to grab myself a screwdriver to tinker with the laser just in case it is the laser.

To Sprung, it works fine it goes past the dc logo, loads for a few seconds then resets itself

I had this problem like 3 years ago, I ended up having to get the laser replaced, haven't had a problem since...

    Re-tune that laser...

Also check the pins that join the power board to the main unit inside (3 or 4 long pins that point up and go through the board) while you at it and make sure they have a strong connection, clean them and if needs be bend them slighty (not too much they can snap)

Reset bug...Basically it's not getting enough power and resetting due to dodgy connection..

Repair: Remove the lid, (no need to remove the laser, btw) there's a board at the left with a thing with 5 prongs on it, clean these prongs and make the connection as tight as possible...Then put it back together. This will HELP to eliminated the bug.

And that's something I have never had happen to any of my Dreamcasts. PROTIP: dust your consoles. Never leave the disc lid open unless you are changing a disc, and buy compressed air. Dust is evil

    Yes dust is evil.
But with the clam shell type lid, there's not a lot of areas dust can get into, on the DC. Where as with the PS2 the things like a vacuum it sucks in from the front, and the dust goes straight on the laser. Lol

I've had it happen to the same Dreamcast 2 or 3 times. That's what you get for letting kids at it...

    Ahh.

My kids know they'll stop existing if they touch my DC.

    Haha. That's cruel

Get them a DC...And a few burnt CD-Rs for them to play, like Donald Duck Quack Attack and Looney Tunes Space Race.

I tried that, but they always dragged out my collection. I got them other systems instead

Haha. I see why you'd kill them then, if they go for your collection.
