    Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Haven't seen the movie in years but for a made-for-tv film, this is still a good movie.

If there was justice in the world, it would be nominated for best picture.

I watched Captain America recently and my god, casting Hugo Weaving as a high ranking SS officer was brilliant.

I'm not sure I'd say that.

There's very little emotional range exhibited in the movie. Iron Man just gets to spend the movie making sarcastic quips, Thor just has to act as nonchalant as possible about everything for his super brief screen time, Captain America just gets to be....Captain America. All over the place. Which isn't exactly great seeing as he stopped being a person partway through his movie to become GREAT INFALLIBLE HERO OF PATRIOTISM. Then there's the hilariously underused Hawkeye and the passable but not exactly interesting Black Widow. In retrospect, they probably could have been more accurate to call this movie "Iron Man and Captain America's Happy S.H.I.E.L.D. Fun Hour (with occasional appearances by The Avengers)". The one time they even skirted anything that was supposed to make the characters emote beyond who they were was quickly rushed through and I felt more depressed watching a character die than the other characters seemingly did.

The plot is pretty bare bones and not really 'about' anything. There's a big bad guy and we need to get a team of superheroes from the last few movies together to fight him. End plot. As far as the actual story goes, you could knock it out in a half hour cartoon. If there's a message anywhere in this it's probably "it's okay to be a dick, as long as you have a couple friends who'll beat up the people who call you on being a dick/attempt to be dicks right back". Or something similar.

Most fun movie I've seen in years. But let's not forget that there's more to the movie than damn good script writing and appropriate acting for the characters portrayed. Because the other areas are kinda not really award winning material overall. So, eh, even if movies were judged by people who weren't reanimated sacks of bones I suspect there's plenty of arguments to be made for other films getting an award over this one. This is the sort of movie where the equivalent to an "award" is box office placement. And I suspect it'll be seated in its rightful place at the top of that pile. Because for the sort of movie this is, it's above anything I've seen this year.

But I guess we could retool the setting into oscar bait.

It's now about a young Nick Fury dealing with being a young black spy in late Cold War era America where there's now a superpower arms race brewing. But that's largely placed into the background so they can call it up as a plot element or possibly use it as a metaphor of some kind. First superman on the moon? Yes sir! Instead the bulk is about how difficult it is to be taken seriously as a minority when the civil rights movement is still a fresh memory for the oppressive brass. Furthermore Nick is engaged in an interracial relationship with some random woman. And of course they wind up bringing up her super strength and difficult superheroism career which later weighs heavily on the relationship. In a rare move, the female superheroine beats the male human seriously after a failed battle with a superpowered Russian. Eventually she dies in the line of duty and he's forced to question whether this war is worth it, why they demand so much of costumed vigilantes, and whether or not putting this much power in the hands of someone who is ultimately just some guy (as well as giving them a huge pass when they misuse said powers) is really a good thing. This eventually culminates in him becoming an integral part of the system he has grown to despise and being completely unable to leave due to the realization that if he did, someone worse would inevitably come along and subsequently cause a complete catastrophe.

There, instant awards. Wire the funds and I'll get started on the screenplay.

Just got back from seeing Prometheus. It was... okay, I guess. But I wasn't really blown away either. Also, it had its fair share of dumbfuck moments.

    Spoiler warning:
OH LOOK, A HOSTILE-LOOKING ALIEN SNAKE/PENIS MONSTER, LET'S START POKING IT

Yeah, um, you kinda deserved that, you know.
