Kind of a long story but I think a lot of folks would like to know, so here goes..
Like I said on the main page, our web host did not bill my credit card for the last two months and then on December 23rd on the pretext of not having paid the bills, they disconnected our server.
I tried getting in touch with them for over a week and did not get any response. They said this was because their internet lines were down due to the Taiwan earthquake. (Quite possible..)
Anyway, finally when I did get in touch with them, I was told that the data on the server is intact and that they'll be able to get the server back online by Wednesday (3rd January..). On Wednesday, they said that the main hard drive of the server was having some problems so they'd installed another hard drive and mounted the earlier hard drive as a slave. Upon looking through the original hard disk I find that none of our data is in there.. So I asked him to find the correct hard disk. (He's still looking for it..).
Now about our backups, if you recall about a month and a half ago our BT tracker server had crashed because of a hard disk failure. Now, the BT Tracker server is used for all our backups (site, forum, etc. etc.). After the data recovery was carried out on the tracker server and the tracker re-instated, I didn't have time to re-setup the backup procedure for the server. In effect, we did not have any backups from anytime before November. Unfortunately, the backups which were prior to November were lost in the BT Tracker crash
That brings me to this particular backup. This backup was just found out of sheer luck as during our previous server transition, there was a dump of the database lying on one of our servers in the US. I think it's from Jan 19th 2006, almost a year ago.
The other backup I mentioned, from around March 2006 seems to be corrupt and would not load into MySQL for some reason, it's only loading in read-only mode so I had to use this one.
I know this is a rather large setback to most of us here but unfortunately we're out of choices this time around.. Unless our web host is able to find the correct hard drive, we'll have to continue from here. However, there are going to be some good updates coming up in the future, so that's something to look forward to..
will you be around more
i'm glad to see you guys back online i was trying to join when your forums went down but i joined now so were all good.
Cold and silent, soiled face I will wash it all away,
With my love,
That's all she's ever needed, from me
It's my time, to mother,
One of my own in my life,
I am so alone, left with no one
In my life, I'm so alone.......
Let's hope our web host can find that HDD..
Anyways, glad to be back and Happy 2006 everyone!
EDIT: Till we receive any news from our web host, if any of you want to recover any account detail lost in this backup, please post here or PM any active Administrator. Thanks.

Well, it is good to see EP back up. I just hope that HD is found soon. It'd be a pain in the ass for you Admins to make certain corrections to us other members to try and bring things back up to date.
i have a feeling they are lying
... will it restore our rep\subscriptions etc. too?
what happens to people who joined EP After the backup date?
What, the updates? Probably not. I mean, unless you remember what your rep level was, you'll most likely just continue off from where you're at now. Unless, that is, the HDD is found. Then everything will be set to 12/06. Those who joined after the backup date won't exist. I don't think...
