    hey, i am here to ask, is there any way of making dial up speeds any faster, without needing to get ADSL. I am poor now cause I bought a new computer, so i cant afford anything expensive...

    Uhh. Not really.. sorry...

    The fastest I've ever gotten when I had dialup was like 6K/sec, or something like that.

    Got comcast now (thank GOD!!!!) and I get like 1100K/sec

    Now I am jealous. I have the fastest internet available in the area and it is 3mb/s for 50 bucks a month. Thats what I get for living in Wyoming, which just so happens to charge about the same amount of money that India does.

    From home? Lies.

    Here is a fast calculation from my home, 6.5Mbit download (which is faster than Sympatico, THX Videotron)

    3.5Gb = 3584Mb = 3670016Kb

    6.5Mbit = 6656Kbit = 832Kb/s

    3670016Kb DIVIDED BY 832Kb/s = 4411 seconds
    4411 seconds = 73 minutes = 1 hour and 13 minutes
    73 minutes DIVIDED BY 23 minutes = 3.17

    APPROXIMATIVE DOWNLOAD SPEED NEEDED FOR 3.5GB IN 23 MINUTES
    6.5Mbit X 3.17 = 20Mbit = 2560Kb/s

    So, do you have a 20Mbit line? If yes, do you have any room left? =D

    Apparently I'm condemned to dial-up...the other day my dad went to pay the cable bill, the company also offers cable Internet alonng, but they told my dad that the area where we live is not supported, because there is no "line or cable" I don't remember...but that sucks

    That used to happen a lot in my area but the conditions have improved

    Ya, the company reduced their package price recently and am upgrading but seriously nowhere near you guys. After upgrading my MAX download/upload speed will be 16 kbps, but as I said, the conditions are improving

    I am supposed to get 8Mbit/down 768Kbit/up.
    But I constantly get speeds slightly faster than that.

    My fastest sustained DL speed was between 1100K-1200K/sec
    and my fastest sustained UL speed is between 100K-120K/sec.

    Mebbe they upgraded the lines again... that would be the 4th time since
    I've had it. At this rate, by this time next year, I'll be online at LAN speeds.

    Damn you all and your fast internet! Yesterday it took me 45 minutes to download a file that was only 450 Kilobytes large!
