    Default power supply

I see there are several types of power supplies out there like 350w, 450w, 500w etc. The case I want comes with a 450w power supply and i was wondering is that enough to run a pc on and what would warrant upgradding to 500w+.

450w will probably be enough, although you may want to buy a good quality branded power supply regardless. Unless you're buying a top-of-the-line case the included PSU's aren't usually the most reliable and in some cases can't even maintain a steady output. If yours has a branded unit, however, then you shouldn't need to worry.

If you're interested there is a 430w Thermaltake PSU on newegg.com for $46.98 including shipping. It may seem like a lot of money but it'll be worth it in the long run.

You should be more concerned with getting a high quality PSU than a lot of power. Cosmic mostly hit the nail on the head. Don't skimp on the PSU. My original PSU was cheap and it ended up dying on me. Also you'll get random reboots and the like.

What components you use will determine the Wattage that you need. Were you to post such information, one could give you a much better answer as to what you should get for your PSU.

I'm gonna have an intel pentium 4 3.2ghz proccessor, a nvidia gforce 6800 256mb 16x pci-e video card, Creative Labs SB LIVE 24.bit 7.1 sound card, a cd-rw and a dvd rw drive, and an 80gb hd. Is that the stuff you need to know?

The stuff somebody who really knows their stuff would need to know...but yes. You'll probably want pretty decent wattage, considering P4 is power hungry, as I'm sure the 6800 is as well. The more hard drives etc the more power you need.

I'll let somebody who knows better do the rest of the answering.

    get 500W minimum.

    6800 requires 450w minimum
and if u evev add anymore drives u`ll need lots of power.

I have pretty much the same as u
    but a 6600GT 128 AGPX and a 450W PSU
