Hey all. What game is the prequel to Castlevania: Symphony of the night?

Not a fanboy, but I don't think that there's an "official" prequel to it.
Interesting question, though.
*waits for the answer*
well you do start at the beginning of the game with ricter and then you play as Alucard.

ha HAH!Symphony takes place four years after Dracula X, a PC Engine title in Japan that never saw a US release. Unlike most previous Castlevania games, Symphony features a main character who isn't one of the whip-cracking Belmonts.
AFAIK only Symphony of the Night featured both Richter and Alucard, but the Saturn version did have Richter and Maria playable from the start.
IIRC, and it has been some time since I last played the older Castlevania games, the true "prequels" (and i use the term rather loosely here) are as follows:
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (Japan release only)
This was for the PC-Engine (also known as the Turbo Duo. Basically a cd-version of the TurboGrafx16 if my memory is correct). This is the game that originally featured Richter and Maria, but not Alucard. Its the last 2d Castlevania that didnt add rpg-elements, and its considered the best of that type of Castlevania game.
side note: The SNES Dracula X is a botched port with a modified story. Most fans assume the PC-Engine version tells the "Real Story" and treat the SNES version as not being part of the timeline.
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
NES game and Alucards only previous appearance, this time fighting alongside Trevor Belmont. Standard 2d Castlevania game.
Alucard also shows up as a backing character in Aria of Sorrow and its sequel, Dawn of Sorrow.

The Saturn version had Richter unlocked from the start unlike the psx version, and added Maria as a playable characterOriginally Posted by Evans
Correct. But, he says that there is a transition in characters. Is that from the Saturn one?Originally Posted by generic insanit
I dont know but I'd assume it's not, and that Eva-01 has mixed it up with a different Castlevania game. I've never put much effort into the Saturn version, as apart from the character choice its markedly weaker than the PSX version in almost every area.Originally Posted by Evans
is there a rom out for the Rondo of blood?
Well at the start of the game of Sotn, you start as Rictar where you do battle with Dracula. You fight 2 forms nad the 2nd one is reconizeable. he's the same form of soma who was the monster in dawn of sorrow which is my 2nd favorite nintendo ds game.
Zorlon posted one, I think. You should PM him.
And yeah, I completly forgot that debut thing with Richter.
The ISO for Rondo of Blood (packaged with an emulator, I believe) is up on the tracker, under the roms section. Seems to have a decent number of seeders, so that might be faster than PMing someone and waiting for them to answer.Originally Posted by EVA-01
And I too cant believe that I completely forgot the opening fight to SotN. How the hell could i forget that? Its one of the most iconic fights in the whole series. Obviously, its high time i went back and replayed Symphony of the Night.
