Well you won't be able to play a cracked copy of Diablo 2 on the official battle.net's server but I see the EP battle.net server sticky thread and you could play it there. I'm not sure if people use that server but yea people still play it surprisingly but I don't why or what for. Last time I checked, it's filled with people who endlessly hack their characters having a Barbarian who raises skeletons and casts Sorceress' spells. Most people use the expansion pack as well so if you don't have it you'll be playing with a limited crowd. So yea people still play it... pretty boring though... just a bunch of dudes running around dueling each other trying to prove who is the bigger hacker...

Go for a private server if you dont have a valid cd key (lost, stolen, etc...)

I still play it.. and hacked chars are only possible in an Open realm. (ep's server is closed realm, so no hacking possible.) (not easily anyway..)
besides, those extra skills are now possible because of the 1.10 update and runewords.
Server needs promoting before people start playing I guess, but im not into spamming.. see the conflict ?
Anyway, the b.net server can handle a lot more then just Diablo 2. I'll look into it getting WOL support too. (westwood games.)
