Default Backing up a DC game

I just recently bought Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram for my DC. The problem is, my Dreamcast has a tendency of scratching my games (no idea why; methinks it's defective), rendering them unplayable in time. As such, almost all of my treasured, rare, and favorite games I have downloaded backups for, so that I might play them without fear of my Dreamcast destroying them. Expecting Virtual On to be such a game, I want the same treatment for it. However, the only torrent for the game I saw on this site was awhile back, lacking a seed, and was finally removed for some reason (suspiciously soon after I made a thread asking for a reseed of it ). Hence, if I want to keep it in good condition, it seems like the only way will be to make a backup of the game myself.

How do I go about doing this?

i think its a complicated process if you wish to backup original dreamcast games. if you have downloaded and burned games to cd's though, they are easy to back up.

It's a complicated process, and most people never succeed in doing it. It requires a DC Coder's Cable, Telnet software, Audio and Video Conversion and Downsampling Software, and a whole lotta time. It takes exactly 24 hours to rip a full 1 GB GD-ROM, then you have to convert/downsize the files so they fit on a 700MB CD-R.

Pretty much every Dreamcast game ever made has been ripped by the major Release Groups (Echelon, Kalisto, Orgasm), so there's really no need to rip your own anymore

Sprung probably also has the game in question.

I wish I had a DC to play some games on.

Got any pawn shops or Goodwill stores in your area? You'd be surprised at the amount of good stuff you could find...like Dreamcasts for $20 (in decent condition, of course)

Too bad most of these stores don't sell VGA boxes for less than 20 bucks...I played Zero Gunner 2 on a regular TV, then through a friend's VGA hookup. The difference in video quality was enough to convince me to look for one...And the only DC related merchandise they have at the EBGames/Gamestops around here are gamepads...and thousands of copies of Slave Zero

That's how it was here for the last year or so...then they stopped altogether.

Ah, well, a bit of torrent searching has found me a V-On torrent. Slow transfer, but it appears to have a seed, so I'm okay now.

Now if only I could find a pair of those twin sticks for less than $50.
