    Default Tabs are illegal LOL!!!

Check this crap out. I just went to powertabs.net and they had this message on there.

[December 17th, 2005] Due to the recent actions of the MPA (see here), we had to change the available content temporarily. More information will be posted soon. Sorry for any inconveniences this change may cause. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
They linked it to this article.

Read that crap. What a load of bullshit man. Apparently, guitar tablatures online are illegal. Gay people want you to go and buy the official tab books. That's wonderful because I bet a good 70% of the stuff I listen to don't have any goddamn tab books. So people who waste their personal time to try to tab a song out for the good of the guitarist community are criminals. LOL! Learning a song according to a person's interpretation of it is a crime I guess. Now we don't only have to worry about having music content on our computers but also tabs. OH NOEZ! I HAVE POWERTAB I GO TO JAIL OMGZ PLZNO!

If you're gonna arrest people because they publish tablatures online, arrest the nubs on mysongbook.com seriously man half of those guitar pro tabs are incorrect...

Lolz. They're just jealous because the actual fans write better tabs than those shitty ass tabbooks and want to make money off it, less they're actually transcribed by the real author.

They might as well outlaw song remixes, as that form of "stealing" is way more obvious.

This is really retarted, because if it weren't for internet tabs I wouldn't be able to play shit. Good thing 95% of the bands I like are too poor or obscure to actually put out a tab book for their songs, so I guess I wont be facing any corporate asshatery from learning songs through the internet.

I mean cmon, some bands actually put song tabs on their site. So you have to pay to listen to it AND learn how to play it? Fuck you, corporate scumbags.

shamess... looking at your avatar, then at your comment... I can't help but think: wtf?

Exactly man. The Destruction homepage has a special section of tabs made by their fans. Peter Kubik of Abigor even posted some of Abigor's guitar tabs online. This is ridiculous...

Just an example of organizations flexing its anti-piracy muscles. They completely miss their target, as always, going for the completely unnecessary issues.

Wow that's idiotic. Do they think people will form bands and play only tabs they downloaded and make billions of dollars?

That's pretty gay. There are some tabs that aren't available for sale anyway.

Why does it even matter? The original musicians already made the album and released it! I don't get why it would still matter after that. It's not like anybody can make the same music and release it as their own.

But people can still take the music and play it illegally at a bar or pub and get some cash. Its most likely just a crackdown because they were bored, but it always was illegal

This is an excerpt from of a guitar tab, usually found in most tabs on the internet:

    #----------------------------------PLEASE NOTE---------------------------------#
#This file is the author's own work and represents their interpretation of the #
#song. You may only use this file for private study, scholarship, or research. #
    #------------------------------------------------------------------------------#

So it's never guarranteed to be accurate. They want to prosecute tabbers that might be taking material(if the tab is accurate) and that make them available for noble causes.

I mean how can you possibly make money off of learning a song(or tabbing it yourself and spreading it to others)? It's not like you're going to rip off a band's work and put it on your CD and claim it to be your own song, or cover a band's song and selling it on a CD without the proper copyright. Besides that would get you a reasonable sueing from the band that you stole the material from.

There's no copyright on playing a song, otherwise you'd have to sue just about every single guitar player out there, because everyone has played a song they didn't write. If you try to make money by selling a CD with covers without having copyright/consent from the band then yeah that's illegal, but I think there's a lot of more crap that these big money-vacuum corporations should be worried about.

Soeru, the article is basically faggots complaining that tabs online are robbing the guys who print music sheets and release tab books.

"The Xerox machine was the big usurper of our potential income," he said. "But now the internet is taking more of a bite out of sheet music and printed music sales so we're taking a more proactive stance."
That little tab header you wrote is basically in every single tab but these money grubbing scum don't care. It's illegal to them anyway.

"Unauthorised use of lyrics and tablature deprives the songwriter of the ability to make a living, and is no different than stealing," he said.
LOL. Tab books are what makes artists rich according to the article. Apparently if I would release a Celtic Frost tab on powertabs.net, Tom Warrior would become poor because the sales of the nonexistant Celtic Frost tab books are what make him money.

These guys are just a bunch of whiny faggots. The artists probably do make some slight money from tab books because the guys who make them (usually not the artists) gotta pay for like rights or something like that. I seriously doubt its much because artists themselves make little money from CD sales (unless you're a mainstream artist). In the end its just a major complaint that users transcribe better tabs than these guys.

I remember one time I was looking for a Master Of Puppets tab. There's obviously tons of them and as usual I look for the one with the best rating. The one that was rated the best was done by ear by some guy. The 2nd best one was straight from the tab book. The guy was pissed off and saying "how the hell does that guy get the better rating? How is his more correct? Mine is straight from the book! It's 100% correct." Just pure ignorance. There was obvious difference and the one done by ear was superior.

The article mentions illegal use of lyrics as well. They'll try to shut down every site that offers lyrics I guess because they didn't personally contact the artist and request permission for publishing lyrics. And posting lyrics online steals Celtic Frost's money uh huh.

If artists ever have a problem with people posting their lyrics, they request the site to remove them. The only site Countess have their lyrics on is on their official page. They can't be posted up on Metal Archives because the lyrics there were requested to be removed. I've seen something similar a couple of years ago on Darklyrics. I clicked on some band but it said the lyrics were removed due to the band requesting us to remove them...

I forsee Metallica thrusting their money-hungry heads into this issue. Lar$ will be like "omfg don't download our music and fuck no don't even play our stuff or we'll sue your asses for twice the amount of Russia's annual budget".

Yes, tabbooks make yield little profit. They're like 10 bucks a pop, 6 of those is probably the materials used for it, 1$ is like royalties and 3$ is the book company's profit. I'm pulling these figures out of my ass just to prove a point: no one is making any money except the publishing company.

Why did the band request to have the lyrics taken off of a site? I'm sure most musicians wouldn't give a fuck if people "stole" their lyrics or tabs, much much more than artists who don't care for folks downloading their music. For shizzle, they might as well outlaw listening to music with the intent of learning how to play a part of or the entirety of a song.

By the way, are live bootlegs considered illegal? Only if the actual live performance becomes official for sale? I know there is one Napalm Death bootleg that was "seized" from a fan in Japan and was published by Earache records. I'm sure the fans who recorded at least got a lollipop for their help.

I hate the companies,I hate the greedy imbecils that run the companies and
don't know a shit about nothing, they just sit in their desks and write a memo
about some stupid misguided idea they have (because they are too retarded to
understand anything),and who pays the price?,people that does no harm to their
stupid companies. instead of worrying about real criminals, they worry about
a guy in his bedroom with his guitar that downloads a tab just to learn or have
a guide about a song too complex to play by ear or whatever.
btw, going to a bar with my guitar and playing, hmm,"helter skelter" (the beatles),
    is ilegal/a crime?.
oh yeah, poor paul mccartney,he's going bankrupt because of me stealing his money.
people who say tabs are a crime like stealing, are the real criminals, they deserve
to go to jail so they'll stop screwing up everything, stupid corporate morons from
    stupid companies.
    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!.
