Default Sega CD problems (hardware related)

I just purchase a Sega CD model 2 from ebay, and today it came in the mail. The problem is the connectors. When you put the Sega CD in the Genesis, it doesn't work. Well I try to clean it and what do you know, a shitload of dirt. I been cleaning it for the last two hours and it still has dirt. I really need a better way to clean it. I clean it by put the system in the Sega CD for a second, and take it out and q-tip it. By doing that, you'll see a lot of dirt on the q-tip. I clean the Genesis slot with the q-tip and try to clean the Sega CD one as well. Any ideas on how to clean better?

Maybe take the plastic mold off the top and use a small soft toothbrush to clean the connectors? Sounds like a good idea to me.

A can of Air Duster could work wonders too.

I just used the toothbrush, it did remove the dirt, but it didn't work.

I may have to try the Air Duster maybe on the weekends. I used a big blower in my house to blow on the connectors and it still didn't work, and there's still dirt in there!

You have the power plugged into both the Sega Genesis and Sega CD? You need 2 power packs.

Yep, one power plug for the Genesis and one power plug for the Sega CD.

    No, noting.

If the connection is not good (if there's dirt on the pins), the Sega CD won't come on.

The system hasn't been used for 10 years, but I still believe that it still works (its just the dirtly connectors).

I tried many ways to clean it, from using a big blower, alcohol, and q-tips. The problem is that the q-tips are too big for the Sega CD connector (which is where all the dirt are located). Even time I put in the Genesis in the Sega CD, a second I pull it out (before that I turn on the power to see if it still works), and get a Q-Tip and clean the Genesis pins. Everytime I do that, I get dirt on the Q-Tip. One guy told me to get a Air Duster, becuase by many people the Air Duster somehow fixes the problem.

Try and find some very thin sand paper. And use a solution of alcohol that is at least 91% alcohol, not the super crappy stuff
