i may check out dragon quest myself. i like the way the characters look. its so, chrono trigger/dragonball z-ish. sorry to say, but i think final fantasy 10 is the best rpg for ps2. unfortunetely the ps2 hasn't had the kind of success with rpg's the way the psx or even the snes has had.

I agree with Mikey. FFX is still the best for the system, but DQ8 really rocks.

Dragon Quest 8 blows FFX out of the water. Hell, even Suikoden 3 and 4 were better than FFX.

lol but you're just sayin that because you're so anti-final fantasy i bet if FFX had some elements from tactics you wouldn't say that.

Well Star Ocean 3 is ok, I didn't enjoy it as much, say FFX though. If you're desperate for a RPG you can check it out.

Well, problem is, it doesn't... That's why it sucks!!

But really, I can't stand FFX... It's so... ugh!!

    Fucking Tidus...

Some of the tunes almost redeem the entire game, though...

All of the above is entirely false. The best PS2 RPG is, without question, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.

Suikoden 4? Please. Only marginally better.

Oh, and if you don't like games that claim to have 80 hours of gameplay when a good 60 hours of that is FMV, stay the hell away from Xenosaga. You'll also keep your cherished memories of Xenogears untainted.

I've read it's something between 50-90 hours, you never know, it all deppends on who is playing.

    Star Ocean 3. Hot.

    Nocturne. Hot.

    Shadow Hearts. Hot.

Dragon Quarter. Not even worth a rent, or a rant. POS. Worst waste of money ever.

Xenosaga. 50 hours of gameplay at best, with 25-30 of watching, but that's ok, since the story is interesting. But don't play it, 'cause you'll feel like trying the second one, which is the lamest, most uneventful RPG ever.

    Suikoden 3
    Dragon Quest 8
    Atelir Isis Eternal Mana
    Final Fantasy X

Those are the ones I have spent most time on and enjoyed.
