Default I can't get Suikoden 3 to work...

I got this game from the torrent available here, but it won't work. I'm using Alcohol 120% for a virtual drive, and also to burn the thing to a DVD. However, when I put the game to a PS2, It'll load up, say Playstation 2 as per usual, but stops there.

What, exactly, am I doing wrong? Thankies in advance.

Do you have a mod chip? (they are required)

Did you burn at a low speed? (the games are easier to read when burned at a low speed)

Is the disk scratched/damaged? That may mean the game can't be read by your PS2

It sounds like you also tried an emulator (mounting to a virtual drive). PS2 emulation is in its early stages, so many games are unplayable, or only work a little with patching/modification of the ISO.

Yup. Practically all PS2s are modded where I live.

Yup. 1x. Doesn't get slower than that.

    Nope.

I don't use emulator, for two simple reasons: me comp sucks, and as far as I know there's no working emulator PS2 in terms of playing commercial games (I don't expect there to be any until like, 5 years down the road anyway, look at the Saturn).

I've burned this thing four times (empty DVD-Rs are cheap) different ways. First, I used Nero Burning ROM straight, but that didn't even get recognised as a PS2 game. Tried DVD Decrypter, but nada. Then I tried using Alcohol120% to burn the image, but that didn't work (though I got up to the Playstation 2 screen). Then I decided to try and "cheat" the system by mounting it onto a virtual drive, and copying the disc, mounting it using Alcohol and burning with Nero, but still doesn't work.

I have a feeling it's got something to do with this "split ISO" thing I've heard that this game was packed with, and I'm unfamiliar with that.

    So...what now?

What exactly is the format for the game you're trying to burn? .MDF, .BIN, .ISO?

EDIT- I'm asking, because I think you may not have extracted the ISO using Winrar, 7zip, HJsplit, winzip, or another splitting/compressing utility

    The files are as follows:

    Suikoden III.MDS (5kb)
    Suikoden III.I00 (4 gigs)
    Suikoden III.I01 (34 kb)

    That's about it. ;;

And you loaded the mds to burn the i0* files, right? Cause everybody screws that up and just trys burning the big i00 file

Yeah, I use the MDS to burn, and it works "best" using Alcohol120%.

And by best, I mean I see the Playstation 2 screen before nothing happens. Any other method won't even acknowledge the disc.

Interesting thing to note is that I don't think it burns the game properly. Is there a way I can combine the split ISO? Maybe that'll work.

    It's a CD Loader lol

It can help boot some CD & DVD games, alot of people that use it, are SwapMagic 2 users and CD Loader is used to boost the compatability of it

Suikoden III is one of the games that people had trouble with and it can boot that game.

Must be very slow it's a small file, but basicly you burn & boot CD Loader first (there are more instructions with pictures on the SwapMagicFix site) I know your using a mod chip but it's worth a try

Let me see if I get this straight.

I need a CD Loader disc. Once that starts, I need to put in the specific CD Loader fix disc, and THEN I put in Suikoden 3. Am I right?

There isn't a specific fix just go through

    1. Boot CD Loader on your PS2

    2. Eject CD Loader normally
    3. (because you have a mod chip) just insert Suikoden III
    4. Press X

    5. Press X

P.S. I just remembered something about Suikoden III you can import a save from Suikoden II for more story line bits in the game, something that was unfortionatly not continued on, in the 4th installment, unless it automaticly looks for a Suikoden III save
