people split the games and upload them in many files cuz sometimes its easier on them as uploaders, and you as the downloader. most people upload using yousendit which often times out while uploading and downloading. so imagine if you go and download a 700mb game and it times out at 80% of being done. many files of say, 50MB are better in some ways.
That's not the only reason, files are also split because many upload services like megagames and ultrashare have size limits on uploads. With services like yousendit which have bandwith limits the files last longer if you split them because each file uses only part of the bandwith it would take to download the whole game, otherwise the files wind up dead pretty quickly.Originally Posted by TheUndertaker
good info there das
I split my games into 30-40 MB parts because I have more success uploading them to YSI that way, with fewer time outs and upload failures.
I've tried larger sizes, but the uploads fail more often when I do that.
Also occasionally, YSI will corrupt a file upload or the server storing that file upload will go down, making it necessary to re-upload that file.
Obviously it takes less time to re-upload a small file, than a large one.
