Default PROTECT YOUR PC (the once and for all, best way to protect yourself online)

    1) GET A FIREWALL LIKE SYGATE PERSONAL FIREWALL 5.6

    - On tests with Sheilds Up! - TOTAL STEALTH MODE!!!

    2) Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus is the next step

    3) Install Spyware Blaster...it does just what the name says

    4) and then Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4

    5) Google Toolbar (Win 2000/XP) 3.0.124.6 (popup blocker)

    6) Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06

    7) Monitor your Internet traffic with ISP Monitor (Freeware)http://www.ispmonitor.be/software

Visit 3 of the BEST Security Expert sites on the Internet, weekly:
    Experts Exchange
    Castle Cops
    GRC (Steve Gibson)

    ----------------------------------
If you install the above software, and update it every 7 days or less...
    NUFFIN WILL EVER GET IN!
    EVER!!!
You have my personal guarantee that the above software will protect your system, your identity, and your online transactions from hackers & crooks.

    Remember this simple formula:
    Sygate+AVG+SWB+SSD+Google+AdAware = 99% online security
YOU provide the other 1% by using common sense

    Because Security is EVERYTHING....

..and the PENTAGON does _NOT_ run Windows. It runs Unix!!

Don't forget ZoneAlarm. It can multitask, also very good for online safety. Good work man.

That would be funny if it had anything to relate to this topic.

Norton has less system overhead (other words: system run fast...yes it does) and AVG is updated several times PER DAY as threats arise. Norton might only be updated once every few days. As a TSR, Norton sucks.

OMG....i wonder how many backdoors M$oft has built into that for their own hack0rz. Seriously though, I hope Linux someday brings down Windows. When Apple goes 100% to Intel processors, a Linux-based OS (that is pretty darn good...minus that Bonjour transponder s**t) will be available for cheap. I wish Steve Jobs well on his mission...get rich & bring DOWN the Micro$oft empire!! (yes, I love Linux. got a problem M$oft fanboys?)

lag, norton isn't bad as long as you have a nice rig, cuz apparently alot of people complain about it being a resource hog. this pc i'm on is a standard one, and NAV doesn't slow it down one bit. avg is interesting though...its free, updates alot, etc. and apparently picks things up that aren't even viruses. at least thats what my nephew's dad says. he canned NAV and installed avg...a few programs that i installed for him, which were basic stuff for ripping dvd's, avg said they were viruses lol that was funny when i heard it so how reliable is THAT.

LOL @ norton not being a ressource hog. Check how much ram it takes and cpu time...Even on latest systems, 1mb of RAM stays 1mb of RAM ya know.

    My solution would consist of:

    AVG Antivirus
    Sygate Personal Firewall
    Ad-Aware SE
    Spybot Search and Destroy
    Ewido Security Suite
    HijackThis!
    M$ Antispyware
    Spyware Doctor
Kaspersky Antivirus (for some AVG can't destroy)
    Mozilla Firefox + Extensions
    -Adblock
    -Nuke Anything
    PeerGuardian 2
    Netlimiter
    EasyCleaner

Scan with a different antivirus/anti-spyware every night and you're clean. ^___^
Visit the sites hardc0regamer posted, they are badass. I like the last one alot, it includes great tools.

Nuke certain parts of webpage. You know some annoying things you might see in webpages, ads that don't get filtered, or a simple java scroller, right click and nuke it...poof it's gone.

boo hoo, you dont like a few ads?

and to whoever it was that mentioned using more tahn one AV, that's just dumb. i talked to a guy at best buy that told me (after taking a look at my laptop) the running avg and nav is a bad idea b/c sometimes NAV will see a virus, and AVG will try to do something with the virus, and they will cancel eachother out, the virus will stay, and sometimes the system will crash.

which is why I completely uninstalled Norton and kept AVG.

Wow, thats a looong list of shit to use at once. I only use 2 programs and ive been pretty much covered. i also have SP2 installed so that helps.

    1)M$ Anti-Spyware Remover
    2)SP2 Firewall and/or ZoneAlarm

Thats all i use, and i have yet to catch anything even when i go porn surfing . Both are quite effective though some of you hate M$ *cough*.
