Hey, I have an assignment for Psychology in which I must ask people a question and since I'd rather not ask people on the streets, I thought I'd come to my favourite gaming related forum (goddamn ban-happy GameFAQs mods!) and ask.

The question is "In what situation or under what circumstances would you obey someone?'.

Answer it in any way you feel's appropriate.

Only if my life is threatened or if being a "hero" isn't worth it, like flipping off a robber in a small store. Not worth it, even if you don't have insurances. Usually, petty larsons like that are made by people desperate for a buzz or by morons.

If the benefits of obeying outweigh the consequences of disobeying...

This could mean I would prefer to do what they want me to, that I'm indifferent, or the consequences are quite severe for not obeying. And yes, I think it's possible for the benefits of disobeying to be greater than living.

I agree with Xaenn mostly. But I don't think I've mastered the ability as yet to so easily assess the conqesuences of dis/obeying. Would add that I would obey someone if I wanted to. This however, doesn't imply that I would do chaotically exactly what I wanted to. Since that would not be the only deciding criterion. I think force would also make me obey, though it wouldn't be out of my own will, thus, won't do it happily.

For real, I presume that if my life where on the line, I would be cautious and may obey to all kind of assignment. But even in this circumstance, I wouln't do anything.

in the case of, say, taking out a robber or saving someone possibly at the cost of personal harm...

disobeying the robber's order to stay put, for example.

I would obey someone only if there is a mutual gain. But even then I would rather think how to get this gain without obeying someone.

-when a rough woman wants to roughly rough me up in bed for rough sex roughly
-when my future wife decides to play the role of my keeper
-when a cop gets on my case about something. i wouldn't want that cop to be upset about anything so i'll suck up as much as possible
