    Default Dreamcast emu system requirements

I can think of a few Dreamcast games I'd like to play, but I don't wanna bother with a lot of downloads and fiddling if I don't have the raw muscle to drive it... what kinda' system does it take to emulate Dreamcast smoothly?

I've got an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU, just over half a gig of ram, and an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 with 256 MB VideoRam...

^ should be fine for Dreamcast

You may want to list the games as not all play well with Chankast and some may not even boot

You do know that most Dreamcasts can play backups without modding them, US machines need to be made before a certain date but all EU Dreamcasts will play backups

I don't know the date thing off the top of my head, because I live in the UK I didn't need to know this for myself

The Chankast Compatability List might help you to decide what to download

EDIT: I'll add the NTSC machine date: Before November of 2000 (all October 2000 and before NTSC DC's will play backups). The manufacture date can be found on the bottom of the DC, on the service tag.

Also you can download boot disks for dreamcasts that otherwise would need to be modded, and I think the security has actually been partially cracked(someone whipped out isobuster on a cd and went through the whole damn thing until he found the boot stuff)

There is no security on a Dreamcast game If your friend read a game with ISOBuster, it was already ripped, since an original Dreamcast GD-ROM cannot be read in a computer. (I supposed that could be construed as a very poorly thought out security measure )

Not my friend. Someone in general.

Yea but you can't play straight up burned games alot of the time. He found the boot data.

Apparently he screwed with a dreamcast and hooked it to a computer(isn't that the way one rips gcn games too?) and ripped it and isobustered it.

Yeah, ripped DC games either are selfboot, or nonboot. For a selfbooting game, you have to have the IP.BIN patched to read the 1ST_READ.BIN file at the correct LBA address, the correct structure for the DC boot process, etc. The Coder Cable is the key to all this

The GCN ripping is similar, done through the Broadband Adapter on the Cube.

Ripping DC games and making them selfboot isn't a walk in the park, but burning them and playing them is
