download speed

Hello I was wondering if someone could help me. When I start a download its running at like 20kb/sec but the it starts dropping to 11 7 and on down to around 3 or 4 kb/sec. I was wondering if there was a way to get it to stay at 20 or even 11 kb/sec. Im on a regular 56k modem no dsl or cable and download accelerators never work ive tried like 5 different ones. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Be happy that it at least reached 20 kb/s

My old 56k modem barely reached 4 kb/s, so get your ass up and get yourself a cable or a DSL connection then youll pull out about 350 kb/s or so depends on the site where you download if they have a fast upload

Damn I was hoping I could get it without dsl or cable cause im poor that and for some reason they don't have dsl in my area yet and cable just won't do it cause of our culvert or pipe for the ditch. Oh well thanks anyway.

Thats just the start of your download, then the cap kicks in, most of the time i get 50 kbps for at least 5 seconds

missouri but i live in a valley and theres a huge ditch and on the other side is the cable. So my neighbors can get cable but not dsl its weird.

Heh! Would if i could especially the cable people cause they say the have to bury the cable 6 feet in the ground. But back when charter was premier the were just fine with running it under the colvert. Now the dicks about it. There suppose to get dsl soon or at least they say but i swore we were supposed to have it last year. Also im pretty sure the people up the street just out of the valley can get dsl.

I think they got lazy, not enough payed or were pulled back by the government. They can have alot of reasons not to do it, but in my opinion if your not gonna do it, hit me with a very very very Gimme a V gimme a E gimme a R gimme a Y VERY!! Good reason

And the fastest I ever got was a little more than 6 KB/s.
I'm afraid with dial-up, that's the best you'll ever get.

You see the 56k is a bit misleading, because it actually refers to 56 kilobits, not 56 kilobytes.
Since there are 8 bits in a byte, that means the actual maximum speed theoretically is 7 KB/s. (56 / 8 = 7 )
I say theoretically, because in reality, you never get your max speed, not even with DSL. It's always a little less.
Which is why your actual max download speeds will always be between 5 to 6 KB/s, and occasionally you might get 6.25 or even 6.5 KB/s depending on the quality of the connection you happen to get. But you'll never get the full 7KB/s.

And for some weird reason to get your page a bit faster, you have to fan your
processor more so it cools more off and can work better and faster.
(You don't have to believe it or just think im crazy, but they say the processor is the same as a human brain, what will you do when your brain overheat? Slow down off course!)
