If I liked a game a lot, I wouldn't care whether or not it was in Japanese. I don't understand 90% of what's happening in Tales of Rebirth, and hardly any of what's going on in SRW Alpha 3, but I don't let that stop me. Once I've got the gameplay down, I'm good. ^-^
Tho' I am trying to learn Japanese at the moment...
I have to know whats going on because if I play an RPG or something I pay attention to the story. Ive never played Chrono Trigger. If u gave me a japanese version I would not play it.
Well, I once picked up a HK Silver of Street Fighter IIIrd Strike (Jap PS2) thinking they'll never release a US version. Played it like crazy until I couldn't defeat the last boss. Now am trying to find a Japanese Cheat CD for PS2 (if there is one that is) to cheat in that game or I'll just pick up an HK Silver of Street Fighter Aniversary Collection (US) as it has the game and there are Gameshark Cheats for that one

I try to play games that I can actually understand, but if its still isn't released here, then I just play the japanese version (rare though)
[Woooooo!]
Just a correction on my part.. if someone posts a complete walkthrough or script on gamefaqs for a Japanese RPG, I'll play it..
I've played lots of japanese games from all kinds of genres. I have a limited knowledge of reading japanese to get by with most games as long as the games don't use kanji.
It's funny. I've played the Super Robot Wars series since 3 for the SNES came out, and because of that I've learned a limited amount of Kana just from seeing it so much in that one series.
I have to agree with FlamingGnats as well - I'll play japanese games if I can get a full guide, but otherwise I pretty much stay away, unless of course they are Bemani games, or something that isn't too text heavy (i.e. Shooters, fighters, etc). I beat the first two discs of FFIX before it came out in the states, but then it just got a bit overbearing. I did manage to finish Shadowrun for the Sega CD however - it took me about 3 months to do so, but it was fun for the most part. As of late though, I haven't really gotten into too many Jap games - I've been tinkering around with Dragon Quest VIII, but lately I haven't been in the mood to translate so it'll probably sit in my collection until the american version comes out.
I played FFXI before it came out. That was awesome, FFXI in Japanese, actually needing to know what stuff meant. More then just the hit a button hope it does something hehe.
i have loads jap games, just to have em
like boxed mario rpg for sfc
will i ever play it?
no
i got the yank one unboxed for playing
and jap gamecube cases are sexier than yank and uro
that alone is a reason to get all jap gamecube games
Yeah i play some japanese games, rpgs and fighting like naruto narutimet hero 1 and 2 and drag-on dragoon by square enix
