I really wonder how many people here actually play japanese games.
If so , what genre do you mostly play and for which consoles?
I play jap games sometimes , mostly fighting and rpg's for the PSX.

In the case of action games, language doesn't pose much of a difficulty (usually). Some of those are Radiant Silvergun, Rakugaki Showtime. And there are quite a few good japanese-only games, like Tales of Phantasia. And since they tend to screw up the voice acting most of the time, I'd rather play the original version of Tales of Eternia and Valkyrie Profile as well. Ball Bullet Gun is a fun game, and there's a translation for it now. Same with Gun Hazard. Ikachan is a short, fun freeware action/adventure game.
Unfortunately there are tons of crappy japanese games that only sell because they have a huge fanbase in Japan (Slayers, Bastard, an basically anything based on an anime/manga)
No I admit, I have alot of Jap games but no, I only play a few, not just bexause of lack of time.
Also becuase of not all games are good, some I buy just to add to the collection some RPG's I play, But with there being 10's and 10's of pachi slotting games (slot machine emulators) and loads of horse racing/breeding sims. There is no way I would play all.
But yes I play the good one's, I just collect the bad one's

Pachinko... never imagined they made games out of those. Heh. Picross is a pretty unique stuff, too, shame that I don't have that many games of that kind (read: one.).
Oh yes Pachi (or Pachinko, yes. depending on game) There is mabye into the 100's of them, I have about 10 diffrent pachi pachi games, some are funny and wacky
Definatly a cool thing to collect, IMO.

I tend to stay with action and strategy games, as I'm afraid that playing an RPG in a language I don't understand would make it more of a chore to get through than fun.
Wow , Namco X Capcom looks really nice I even see characters from Tales of Destiny !!
I'll play the odd Japanese game every now and then, mainly action or platform titles. Although I share FlamingGnats' views on text-heavy Japanese RPGs. Surely an understandable storyline is the main basis of an RPG? Wow, another turn-based battle system. :\

I play JP fighting games and RPG's as well as the occasional odd ball game.

It was the dead who groaned within - E.A Poe
Yes, Namco x Capcom is fun, but as you get further in it the battle just get tedious..
Well with RPGs i'd like to actually read the story as much as play the game, so if I can get my hands on a translated version (Like I did with Tales of Phantasia SNES) then that's even better.
On the seventh dawn of the seventh day a twice-blessed man will roam the fields. Doomed to shadows with his brethren, or saviour to all who walk the ground.
At the moment, Tales of Phantasia comes to mind. I played the SNES version in 100% Japanese when it wasn't translated at all, years ago.
I played powerstone 2 On DC in full japanese, still got the gd-rom to.
I loved it.
English is kool to me too.
