Problem with suikoden 2

After I go into Mount Rakutei for the quest of Humphrey and Futch the part where they talk about the mist and how they can't get past it and then the bright shield rune is suppose to activate and remove the mist, but for some reason it doesn't happen for me. Any help at all about my problem would be much appreicated.

is futch and humphrey in ur party?

Yes they are. I already passed by that part so it's not longer important i never did figure out why but ah well doesn't matter anymore.
