Default The Ultimate Free MMOG List!

I am (or was) an avid player of MMOG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) for like, 5 or 6 years up until recently when they all started to run together and I stopped getting enjoyment out of them. In that time, I recorded -every- game I ever played, and have been keeping track of them on a seperate forum. Well, I've decided to bring the list here for all of you now. Please note that the little reviews I give are my -opinions-. Please don't start a flame war in the thread if I insult a game you like.

The list is over 50 games, if I remember correctly, and I won't be adding them all at once, maybe 5 per day. If you have feedback for me, or want to give your own review of a game on the list, feel free. Also, if I've missed a game, PM me with it's URL.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Knight Online (http://www.knightonlineworld.com/) In short, an Everquest clone that doesn't quite make it, but is still one of the best free MMORPGs out there right now. It has a large community (with the predicatable 100+ people in town hawking their wares and getting in your way), a decent sized world, and fun war-like battles between the two races, including castles seiges.

    Character Creation

    The Starter Town

    Fighting a Bandicoot

    2. Era of Faith (http://faith.91.com/) Sadly, this game will be shut down permanently on the 30th of June, 2005. (Closed)

    3. Rubies of Eventide (http://www.cyberwar.com/) This game haad very good graphics for something that was free, and the character customization was phenominal (You had like 50+ classes). However, the lag blew me away (remember, could have just been me) and I didn't see a single other person while I was playing.

    Character Creation

    Outside the Starter Town

    4. Monster and Me (http://www.monstergame.info/) Apparently it, too, is closing on the 30th. (Closed)

    5. Conquer Online (http://www.conqueronline.com/) One of the better looking games out right now. It's another one that
falls into the Diablo/Ultima Online graphics catagory. The character creation is a tad limited, and people are constantly screaming in town for power levels, but it could be a lot worse.

    Character Creation

    The Starter Town

    6. Gunbound (http://www.gunbound.net/) I used to be an avid player of this game. Think of it as that Worms game, only better, and online. It isn't really my type of game, but it managed to hold my attention for a while.

Waiting for the Game to Start

    In a Match

    7. Shot Online (http://www.shot-online.com/) A Korean online golf game with interchangable avatars and stuff. Never played it, don't plan to, but someone might get some enjoyment from it.

    Screenshot 1

    Screenshot 2

    Screenshot 3

    8. Kal Online (http://www.kalonline.com/) A Feudal japan themed MMORPG that runs on almost the same engine as Knight Online. You can fish, seige castles, and do other stuff. I felt that the mouse sensetivity was a bit too high, and I ran a little to slow.

    Character Creation

    The Starting Area

    Fighting a Demon Thing

    9. Gate To Heavens (http://www.gth.com.my/) Another Knight Online look alike. This one actually shows some promise. The character armor looks downright cool. I actually tested this one however, and at the moment its really buggy.

    Screenshot 1

    Screenshot 2

    Screenshot 3

    10. Slayer Online (http://www.slayersnet.com/) Think of it as Diablo 2 with different classes.

    11. Planeshift (http://www.planeshift.it/) Another promising looking game. The graphics are suprisingly good on this one. it's currently in beta testing stages.

    Mining

    Castine a Spell

    Combat

    12. Xiah (http://asia.xiah.co.kr/) Decent looking game, if not a tad difficult. It only has four classes to choose from. From what I played of it, it runs a lot like Knight Online and Kal Online.

    The Snow Camp

    Some sort of Boss

    Combat

    13. Survival Project (http://www.survival.com.my/) A cutesy sort of top-down view fighter thing.

    14. Eternal Lands (http://www.eternal-lands.com/) For those of you who have played Runescape, think of this as it with greatly improved graphics.

    15. Infinity Empire (http://www.infinityempire.com/us/index.php)
An online Homeworld-esque RTS game. It's in beta testing right now. When I played it, I was the only one in the map I was on, and it was so confusing I gave up on it. I suppose some people might find it fun.

    Screenshot 1

    Screenshot 2

    Screenshot 3

    16. Ray Crash (http://www.raycrash.net.sg/) never tried this one. From what I can tell, it's a 3D beat 'em up online type game where you pilot Gundam type mecha.

    17. Battle For Wesnoth
(http://www.wesnoth.org/home) Although the graphics in this game are shitty, I was blown away by how fun it is. I literally spent a whole week playing this game. You start as a commander, and capture villages to earn gold and build up an army. A single match can last hours.

    Selecting a Game

    An Elven Army

    An Orc Stronghold

    18. Ragnarok Online (http://www.clownphobia.com/) This MMORPG is always getting awesome reviews, and I played it for a while, but I never really got into it. It was fun for a while, but the graphics must have got to me. Graphics aside, however, this is one of the few games on my list that has the potential to be a serious MMORPG. So give it a try.

    Fighting a Cactus

    Starter Town

    Entrance of the Orc Dungeon

    19. Shattered Galaxy (http://www.sgalaxy.com/gameinfo.html) A Starcraft-like online RTS game. Buy units, fight the opposing faction, yadda yadda yadda.

    20. Sky Blade (http://www.skyblade.com.ph/) Same as Era of faith, only a tad more martial-art related, and a bit more cutesy.

    21. Americas Army (http://www.americasarmy.com/) A damn good online FPS. I played it last year, and it kept me busy for at least a month. Has incredible graphics for a free game. Many, many playable servers, maps and modes. Dozens of weapons, and a solid community. I highly reccomend it.

    Reloading a Weapon

    In Training

    During an Online Game

    22. Purge Jihad (http://www.purgejihad.com/) Another nice looking FPS. Almost everything works on the free version, but you can only select 4 of the 8 classes if you don't pay.

    23. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (http://enemy-territory.4players.de:1041/index.php) Once again, a free FPS. Think of it as Battlefield 1942 minus the fun with added lag.

    24. Maple Story (http://www.mapleglobal.com/) An odd side scrolling MMORPG. Didn't expect this, but it was actually a lot of fun. If I wasn't preoccupied with L2 and GW I probably would still be playing it. The only real beef I had with the game was the overcrowdedness of some areas.

    Random Field

    The World Map

    Another Random Field

    25. World of Pirates (http://worldofpirates.4players.de/wop/main_en.html) Some sort of strategy game to do with the Carribeans in the 17th century. Never played it, don't plan to.

    26. Hostile Space (https://www.hostilespace.com/Portal/login.asp) An ugly looking 2d MMORTS. Apparently the gameplay is half decent because it has decent reviews.

    27. Deloria (http://deloria.nexemis.com/index.php?del=news) The graphics it uses actually remind me of Rm2k. O.o

    28. Oz, Another Life (http://oz.ongameport.com/) This actually looks a lot like ROSE and Maple Story, only it says that its focus isn't combat, but rather to form a friendly community. If you roleplay, this is probably for you.

    29. Free World Online (http://www.freeworldonline.com/) Everquest-ish type 3D MMORPG that's still in development, but has beta tests weekly.

    30. Daimonin Online (http://web2.168180.vserver.de/index.php) A 2D isometric MMORPG that looks pretty decent, but I have no idea what the gameplay is like.

    31. Terra World Online (http://www.terragaming.net/) Another 2D thingy. This one is rated the best on the internet, at this point in time.

    32. Rilphia Saga (http://www.rilphiasaga.com/) yet another 2D dealie like Terra World Online. Runs off the same RM2k-esque engine.

    33. Hoverboard ASDF (http://global.asdfgame.com/) A nifty little racing MMOG in which you fly around the tracks on (you guessed it) hoverboards. It's pseudo 3D.

    34. Faldon Online (http://www.illusorystudios.com/) Looks a lot like Ultima Online, only just a little bit more 3D, and a little bit more ugly.

    35. Little Fighter 2 (http://www.lf2.net/) A side-view online beat 'em up. Looks pretty cool, and the graphics are kinda spiffy.

    36. R.O.S.E (http://www.roseon.com/) From the creators of Ragnarok online. This game is neat, if not a little cutesy and overcrowded. However, it's not completely free, just in open beta. Though, the RO beta lasted over a year, so you may be in luck. Enjoy.

    Out Fighting

    On a Boat

    37. DO Online (http://eng.doonline.co.kr/) Don't know anything about this game aside from the fact that it's based around ancient Chinese lore.

    38. Gekkeiju Online (http://www.coolhouse.fi/gekkeiju/) An extremely ugly 3D MMORPG currently in the beta stages.

    39. Sherwood (http://www.maidmarian.com/) Again, I know next to nothing about this game, aside from the fact that it apparently runs without a client. O.o

    40. Furcadia (http://www.furcadia.com/) Ugh. I despise this thing. It's basically a 2d isometric MMORPG in which all you do is roleplay as animal-people. Yuck.

    Uh.

    Oh god.

    Make it stop.

    41. Battle Position (http://battleposition.e-games.com.my/) A less cool looking and less-fun version of Gunbound.

    42. Legend of Mir3 (http://www.legendofmir3.co.kr/) A slightly popular top-down view Diablo-type MMORPG. It has quite a large community at this point, and continues to grow.

    World Map

    In a forest

    In a dungeon

    43. Savage (http://home.ripway.com/2005-1/248022/Savage.html) This game has to be one of my alltime favourites. So good, is this game, that it has been on my computer for over a year, longer than any other online game (other than L2). It's a combination RTS/FPS online game, and it is a must have. You play either the commander (RTS style game where you view the game from a top-down view) or a regular soldier (FPS game, where the items and weapons you can purchase depend on what your commander has researched).

    The Server Select Screen

    Standing on a Wall

    In the Heat of Battle

    44. Runescape (http://www.runescape.com/) A gross pseudo-3D game that my friends made me play years ago. Though ugly, it has a lot of stuff to do, so I guess it's not horrible. Last time I was there, you could either play for free, or the special paying version with more options.

    Hahaha.

    Runescape Map

    Some sort of Tower.

    45. Wulfram 2 (http://www.wulfram.com/) Never played it. Looks to be some sort of futuristic MMORTS of sorts.

    46. Realms of Kaos (http://www.realmsofkaos.com/) This link was given to me by a friend, and because the site is under construction I have no idea what it is.

    47. Anarchy Online (http://www.anarchy-online.com/) A very popular MMORPG, the company has made the original game free for the time being, with the expansions being the only things you have to pay for if you want them. It looks pretty good, and I reccomend you try it while you can.

    Some sort of bar.

    I honestly have no idea.

    See above

    48. AdventureQuest (http://www.battleon.com/) A neat little browser based MMORPG that's work safe and all that. I didn't give it much of a chance, but from what I did play it was somewhat fun. The battle graphics were suprisingly good, and apparently the game is updated constantly.

    The Main Town

    The World Map

    Fighting a Bird

    49. Another World (http://aw-online.net/) Never played this myself, but according to the site you can do just about anything in it, from cooking fish to killing people.

    50. Crystal Atatrium (http://www.atatrium.com/) What looks to be a somewhat promising MMORPG. it's currently in the early development stages.

    51. Imperian (http://www.imperian.com/index.php) A test based MMORPG that is HEAVILY roleplaying oriented. In fact, I think it may be a rule that you have to roleplay in it. Despite this, I found Imperian to be one of the most fun text-based games I've played. If you want to get the most out of it, however, you should join with a friend, as it tends to be overwhelimg at first.

    52. Materia Magica (http://www.materiamagica.com/) Another text-based game. This has got to be the most enjoyable one I've ever played, and I've played it on and off for 3 years. Much easier than Imperian, and without the roleplaying rules, this game is very easy to get into.

    53. Achaea (http://www.achaea.com/) Made by the creators of Imperian, this is another hella fun text based MMORPG (or MUD).

    54. DarkEden (http://www.darkeden.com/en/) It claims to be the first horror MMORPG. O.o Uses graphics that are on par to Ultima Online, and doesn't look bad.

    55. Illarion (http://illarion.org/general/us_news.php) Another generic UO wannabe. This one looks as if it could be at least somewhat promising, but the fact that it enforces roleplaying isn't cool.

    56. Kings of Chaos (http://www.kingsofchaos.com/) One of those browser based games your friends would harass you about to click on all day long. Really not my kind of game, but I guess it could keep some people busy.

I'll add it eventually. Try not to post that kinda stuff here, but rather in PM's, so this thread doesn't get cluttered.

Sounds silly, but why not just post the lot in one go? I've already seen this exact thread in several places, rage3d etc

*Edit.* Added the rest of the games from the original list. If I've missed anything -PM- me with the URL of the game.
