    Default Buying the right ram?

Ok I am planing to upgrade from 512 ram to a gig of ram but I have a questions. I know my comp can only handle only 1 gig but I looked at my comp specs and it says supported speed is PC2700. So do I have to buy ram at that speed or can I buy ram that is PC3200?

    Thanx for replies.

It should support PC3200. To be on the safe side, find out your motherboard model number/tag and try post it here.

    (Easy way out, download Everest)

Go with 2700 anyways, buying the 3200 and mixing it with your 2700 will just underclock the 3200.

    So get PC2700.
    Or 2 sticks of 512 3200.

Least you dont have RDRAM. Dell decided to be nazi's and installed a RDRAM mobo in my computer. That stuff costs 100 dollars a 256mb stick. They also must be installed two at a time.

Heck yeah... and that's just with rebates and stuff. Some places don't have rebates, it's it's nearly $200. Crazy bastards.

$200 gets you a new computer! My brother was looking to build a cheap semi-gaming computer, and we ended up not building it, but buying it. CompUSA had a compaq sempron 3100+, 512mb ram, 160gb HDD, dvd-rom for sale for 200 dollars after rebates. THen we figure we spend another $100 for a 9800Pro or something and he's set
