    Default Strange MAME Problem

I've asked this before, some odd months ago, but I figured I would ask again since it's been a while and haven't had any luck fixing the problem. I've tried other MAME-specific forums, but people are rude there, call me a "n00b" and leave it at that. Not exacally the kind of help I'm looking for, you know? Anyway..

When I open MAME, it runs like normal. The available roms are listed on the right. When I want to play a game, I double-click on the rom I wish to play, and the game loads up. However, now, the available roms are still listed on the right, but it won't let me click on them. It acts as if I don't even try to click on them. The games never load, no matter what I do. If I right-click and select "play *rom*" nothing happens, and if I highlight the rom I wish to play, go into "File" and scroll down to "play *rom*" nothing happens. I can no longer play anything. It doesnt' even give me an error message. Just.. nothing happens. I've run checks, and all my bios files are still there, and all the directories are still set correctly. I've tried deleting the ini files, but that didn't do anything, either. I've tried uninstalling MAME and reinstalling it, I've tried downloading different versions of MAME, and I've even tried reformatting my entire computer. Nothing works, and the problem continues to persist. Please, if anyone knows of a way to remedy this problem, let me know. I'm going stir crazy from lack of classic, nostalgic gamage.

Well, that's certainly something I haven't tried before. How do I do that?

That.. actually worked. o.o Thank you very much. Now I can play MAME again. Why was it doing that in the first place? Do you happen to know?

It's because of the long directory. Did you put your MAME folder in a place something like this C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Games\Emulation\Arcade\MAME?

The same thing happens with other emulators like the N64 emulator, NEMU64.

Unless you have it in a short directory (mine--E:\NEMU) then the emulator won't work.

I think the same thing happens with Nebula too.
