saw The Squid and the Whale the other night. amazing amazing amazing. hilarious and smart. produced by Wes Anderson (the life aquatic, royal tennenbaums, rushmore) so that may give you a feel for the idea. soundtrack is great.
stephen baldwin dominates as the tennis instructor.

even if you don't see the movie, you could always start a conversation about the movie by saying "i liked the scene with the squid and the whale..." so you can't go wrong.
