Love Azarath. All death metal fans should check them out. Especially check out their album "Demon Seed". Their newest one "Infernal Blasting" is still pretty good too

Anyone into thrash should check out the band Anacrusis. It doesn't get any better than this. The riffs are pure ripping thrash, and the vocalist has an excellent voice ranging from black metal shrieks to power metal falsettos. All their stuff is available on their website if anyone's interested.

Some of the Anacrusis stuff is good, but others is really un-good. But, I guess I'm not the most metal of people.

Wow, they have all of their albums up for download at their official site. I'm listening to "R.O.T." and it sounds kick-ass, reminds me of Death and Rigor Mortis(which btw, are getting back together). I think I'm going to download all of their stuff now.

I've been downloading a lot of brutal DM lately, just stuff from bands related to the Western US DM bands. Stuff like Gorgasm, Disgorge, Disavowed, Pyaemia, some missing Deeds of Flesh albums, and Odius Mortem. Suffocation and Decrepit Birth have really gotten me into the more brutal stuff... Take a look at these rehearsal videos from Decrepit Birth I found, really insane stuff: http://www.smnnews.com/board/showthr...0&pagenumber=1

If you guys like old DM like Obituary or other death/thrashy stuff, you'll really like the band Ripping Corpse. They used to have Erik Rutan before he went on to be Morbid Angel's secondary guitarist. Their only album is extremely kick ass, it's amazing how many bands got together in the late 80's/early 90's, put out one or two albums, then split up and were never heard of again.

Speaking of death/thrash... I'm sure many of you have heard of the heavy metal band Therion. They started out playing DM, that stuff is great. Now they have a death/thrash metal sideproject called Demonoid, they put out an album in the vein of Therion's old material, just much more evolved. Really good stuff, highly reccomended.

Speaking of free downloads check out some Chastisement and Souldrainer for some kickass melodic death metal. Souldrainer more slow and Chastisement is more fast paced

Chastisement... damn, I've known of them for quite some time but I've never listened to them a whole lot. They're underexposed as fuck, I'm going to blast their CD's(I have them) tommorow first thing in the morning.

Going rather off-topic: I just bought some thick-ass electric guitar strings so I can play some downtuned stuff. I have my guitar tuned to D so I could play some Vader, Decapitated, older Behemoth, etc. but the strings are totally flimsy. These new ones are going to kick ass. When I get 'em I'll finally be able to tune all the way down to C and B to play some Amon Amarth, Nile, and Behemoth songs the way they were supposed to be played.

I've been trying to learn that Decrepit Birth song "Prelude to the Apocalypse", lots of riffs to remember. My spaghetthi-like strings aren't helping too much either, but the song is fast and challenging. Really fun to play.

    The whole works.

EDIT> Then why is it they have a song named "Black Metal"?

For the record here's the lyrics

black is the night, metal we fight Power amps set to explode
Energy screams, magic and dreams Satan records the first note.
We chime the hell, chaos and hell Metal for maniacs pure. Fast
melting steel, fortune on wheels For BLACK METAL lay down your
sold to the gods rock'n'roll Freaking so wild, nobody's mild
Giving it all that you've got. Wild is so right, metal tonight
Faster than over the top. Open the door, enter hells core Black
is the code for tonight Atomic force, feel no remorse Trunk up
the amps now it's night BLACK METAL lay down your soul to the
gods rock'n'roll metal ten fold through the deadly black hole
riding hells stallions bareback and free faking our chances with
raw energy Come ride the night with us Rock hard and fight
United my legions we stand Freak hard and wild for us Give up
your souls Live for the guest satans band Against the adds,
black metal gods Fight to achieve our goal Tasting a spell,
leather and hell Black metal gods rock'n'roll Building up steam,
nuclear screams War-heads are ready to fight Black leather
hounds, faster than sound Metal our purpose in life. BLACK
METAL lay down your soul to the gods rock'n'roll

That's a cover of Venom (another great song being butchered by a bunch of camwhores), a band people believe to be the first "Black Metal"-band (most likely because of their album from the early 80's). Also, the sleeve of most Venom-albums says "NWOBHM" (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal).

This might be some bad news for all you Nightrage fans

    Tomas Lindberg has left

"Dear fans of Nightrage and metal in general, Im sad to announce my departure from the mighty Nightrage. This is a band i joined some time ago to help my friend Marios out. But over the course of time Ive grown deeply fond of being a part of this extraordinary band. But as you might know Im a busy soul and have no other option than to give up one of my projects, only becuase of lack of time. My only comfort is that Nightrage now can continue at full speed without me holding them back. But i will continue to follow their career, cause i have great expectations for the future of this band. Hail Marios! Hail Nightrage."

Alright, I'll record some at another time and YSI it up here.

Ah shame Lindberg left... Nightrage was pretty cool. The Crown is cool and somewhat similar, btw.

I recently discovered a brutal DM band from Spain called Infernal Hate. Only heard one song so far. They're like a mix of Deicide and Suffocation. Their drummer is the guy from Internal Suffering, but the riffs are more impressive than the drumming itself. It's not nearly as good as other Spanish DM bands like Avulsed or Wormed, but it's certainly something to check out.

Erm Kalmah aren't black metal. The riffage of Kalmah is totally different from black metal bands. If you listen to real black metal you'll know

Edit: and indeed Kalmah are ace, they are one of my fave bands
