Eh? Wasn't .hack project's aim is to create an offline MMORPG? I think Bandai said in more than one interview that they intend to keep .hack an offline game.
EDIT
A Google search doesn't yield worthwhile results. Seems like an abandoned project.

Thanks for making me look like an idiot, crusher.
But hey, that sounds interesting. I wonder what else you can do with the PS2/PC connection.
expect to see me there, chuck. I always hated MMORPGs, but DotHack didn't overcomplicate it like, say, EQ or UO--Nice and simple and yet still immersive. Can't freaking wait.
I'm perfectly aware that I make people sick.
.hack was never a good offline mmorpg, im not looking forward to this one at all. The whole .hack series is boring. Sorry for being so negitive though =P
that's great to hear I just hope they can make a good plot and play style for it because if they just did an online version with similar gameplay to the offline games I don't think it would work very well. Great to know now 2 .Hack games will be coming in the future when I didn't think we'd ever see more of the series after the poor sales of the later chapters of the last games. I loved Infection, mutation, outbreak and quarintine and have around 250 hours logged on the games.
I would import the game when it comes out, but i just remembered i need the damn external HDD for my Japanese PS2 >< Even if I dont need the HDD, thats the only way.
Nuro and crusher, I respectfully disagree, I liked that it was nice and simple, no reason to complicate things, but if it ain't your cup of tea then that's all that really matters, considering it's entertainment and quality is utterly subjective .

Hmm? The artical crusher posted above mentions the game won't use the HDD, just the network adapter. It'll hook up to the internet via your PC (for free!) and use it to store some stuff.Originally Posted by Borman
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
Yea, but my model PS2 is the first JP model, and you need the external HDD, there is no seperate network adapter.
i can't wait to set up my dungeon with pwnzers monsters
