Default Play DVD Dual Layer Discs on DVD Player/Game Systems

Hey guys. Quick question. I recently bought a DVD Dual Layer Burner (I now have 2 in my computer!! ), and I was wondering. Can Dual Layer Discs be played in most DVD players? And will they play in game systems such as PS2 and XBOX. Thanks!!

i believe that only a few DVD players support dual layering, you need to get the ones specially designed for it, although most DVD players are leaning towards to supporting it... im not sure, but i don't think PS2 or an xbox can support dual layering, as the dvd's they use are not dual layered. they might though, just try it and see

Well, since most movie DVD's are dual-layer... I heavily believe that the DVD players can play dual layer discs.

I think the PS2 can read dual layered discs. Xenosaga came on a dual-layered disc, didn't it?

I thought the reason for programs to half your dvd quality so your films would fit on a 4 gig disk were because a great deal of films came on dual layer DVDs. I don't think dual layer reading is a very new thing at all, is it?

but.......Xenosaga and Metal Gear Solid 2 are dual layer DVD.

so the PS2 must be able to read dual dvd fine. unless they did something special to those DL dvd ps2 games

Well...too clear things up, its movies I'm concerned about. I know that some DVD players dont read DVD-R to begin with. I just can't see why they wont work when most if not all DVD movies are dual layered.

    Thanks for the help!

could it be because of the difference of DVD+R and DVD-R and not the fact they are dual layered?

Id aassume that it would work fine, as long as the laser is up to it. If youve got a crappy DVD player (really crappy ) then i doubt it would work.

A normal 4.7 GB DVD can hold up to 120 minutes of video. The movies distributed are usually longer than two hours = they are on double capacity DVD's. So usual DVD players should be able to play those discs, if I am not completely mistaken.
