I have this new dvd player and it allows me to watch Xvid and DivX too
but I have some anime on ogm and ogg format that I want to watch , so how can I convert my anime to Xvid or Divx ?

A google search yielded good results. Here's the first link I got:

If the source video inside the .ogm was in fact a divx or xvid stream, will the program just change the container format to avi? Or does it still re-encode it (rather wastefull resource and quality wise)

Another method would be to use VirtualDubMOD. It handles OGM files too, so open them, convert them to DivX or XviD, and save as AVI. I don't know how to put multiple audio streams in AVI though, probably if you wouldn't disable them before conversion, they would remain.

BTW, OGM is a format of storing video and audio data, like AVI. DivX and XviD are compression methods of video streams. This essentially means that you probably don't need to re-compress anything, just save the video in another format.

Yeah if you use Virtual Dub Mod, When Rencoding to AVI Set your codec to AVI and stuff but under the audio choose "Direct Stream Copy" and the audio will remain untouched.

I just got this Virtual Dub Mod and I tested it but I ran into a problem.

When I load my .ogm file an error pops up :

Coulnd't locate decompressor for format XVID (unknown)
Virtualdub requires a video for windows(VFW) compatible codec to decompress
video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only '' Direct Stream copy '' is available for this video.

Then I try to '' save as '' the ogm file as avi , which worked good for the video because no quality was lost but there is no sound

and I just came across some other forum and someone had the same problem as me , and then someone said that you can't put the ogm audio into an avi , so I must first extract the audio , then make it in mp3 and then I need to put it back with the subs , the video in VDM. but how can I extract the audio for the ogm files?

    EDIT :

Ok I've done it I extracted the audio( the english and japanese ) in VDM and the outcome was an .ogg file , then I converted that one to mp3 and placed it back in the stream list ( and I disabled the other audio files )
then I converted it to AVI . Then I extracted the subs and saved it as a SRT file then I gave the subs the exact filename as the video and w00t .. it's done ^^
