Default A way to know if a PSX games is region patched before burning?

Would like to know if there's a way to know before burning if a NTSC game has been patched to PAL. Cause only the SLUS/SLPM etc... code can't tell if a game has been converted to PAL.

Is there a way in emu or anything else to view or test?

    Thanks for the help

Open either ePSXe 1.5.2 or 1.6.0

Go to Options > Country > AutoDetect, and put a check mark there.

Finally set your video plugin to Window Mode instead of Full screen.

If your using 1.5.2 then your finished.
If it's 1.6.0 then you may also have to go to Run > Enable Logs, and put a check mark there.

Now when you load a game into either 1.5.2 or 1.6.0 you will see another screen that includes among the information listed, whether ePSXe detects your game as PAL or NTSC. If the emulator window comes up too fast afterwards for you to see the other window, just minimize the emulator window. That's why I suggested you switch to windowed mode from full screen.

Use a Graphics plug-in that shows you the FPS rate, and set the limit to auto. If the rate is 50 when playing, it is PAL, if 60, it's NTSC.

For example P.E.Op.S GPU and Pete's GPU's show the framerate if you check the box in confgiuration.

Yeah, I thought that would work too, but when I tried it with some small games--not enough room on my HD at the moment to test with larger games--one game had a fps of 100 at times, 30 at other times, another game had an fps of 70...I don't know, did I do something wrong?

    I used Pete's Pete's D3D Driver 1.75

I checkmarked Show FPS display on startup.
    I checkmarked Auto-detect FPS/Frame skipping limit

    Unchecked Use FPS limit
    Unchecked Use Frame skipping
    Unchecked FPS limit (10-200)
    Unchecked Unfiltered Framebuffer updates
    Unchecked Special game fixes

This depends on the reason you want to know personly because I have a PAL PSone and if I get an NTSC game I only patch the boot, because of the type of mod chip I have only boots CD-R backups with a PAL boot sequence but all the above methods can't detect if a game has been patched that way but if it's just to want make sure the game is displayed in your region code then the above methods will work most the time.

Display patches as far as I am concerned should not be used they not only make the game run at the wrong speed but they can also make a game freeze, for my PSone to get round the NTSC Display I just use an RGB Scart connection to my TV from the PSone and it will fix the display to show on my PAL TV and it will still run at the speed it was ment to be

If you want to make sure the boot is NTSC though your best bet is to just patch it to NTSC (That is realy easy to do)

What's the logic here? If you don't use the automatic frame skipping (you unchecked the FPS limit usage in general), how can you see what FPS it limits the game to?

I thought that Use FPS Limit was the switch that activates and deactivates the FPS Limit that you set yourself manually, that can be set between 10 - 200.

So, if you have it set for auto, then you also want the manual setting deactivated, so you uncheck Use FPS Limit.

If I'm wrong about that though, then I guess I need someone to explain how I should have my GPU configured to determine if a game is PAL or NTSC.

Taken from Pete's OpenGL 1.72 plug-in, although you might want to enable Frame skipping as well to make sure it stays at the desired framerate.

Thanks for the tips guys, i used PSXeven v0.19 emu to view frame rate and it's working perfecly. I'll stop wasting time and CD-R to to view if a game is NTSC. But now i have to figure out how to remove the PAL patch on Lethal Enforcers NTSC. Tried different things with no luck... yet

Some games can't be patched unfortionatly but you can sometimes make codes to get round that but it can be complicated to make those code in the first place and not just using other progs to make the codes
