How much money do you need to earn yearly?

What do you think a guy needs to earn AFTER college? This is being totalled in yearly pay of course. And benifits, don't forget those. How much does one need to live a decent life?

I always thought 40,000 dollars (US) was kinda nesasary nowadays. What does the crowd here think?

$40,000 a year would be more than sufficent i would say, i dont know if things are THAT different in the USA but in my company a guy named martin is the top paid manager (birmingham bullring) he gets the equivalent of about $28,000 a year. He has a lovley house a few kids and a nice car....

It really depends, in the Northeast of the US, rent/mortage is much higher than in other states. It also really depends where you choose to live, what kind of vehicle you own, etc. $40000 is definately a minimum if you live alone and want to live reasonably well.

If you are living alone, I think $40,000 is way more than enough. If you have a family it depends on where you want to live and how, and the size, but more than that would be preferable.

I should have defined it better. This is all assuming I live alone. Also this is money to be payed RIGHT out of college. That doesn't mean no bonuses/raises. 40-50 thousand a year starting would allow a guy a decent life right? I mean, used car (why buy an overrated P.O.S. ? In three years it will break down anyway), new house (my dad bought this one for 250,000 (US) and its payed for in one more year!), and no more than two kids and a wife.

Location: US Midwest. Good land, good price.

That any clearer? I'm not shooting for some corporate dominance of the world, or so much money that my kids/wife get sassy, and in no way do I want to be some uber rich guy that has employee's under him who are constantly making assasination plans (we do that all the time at EBgames).

I want to work until I'm 55, then im done. (I never want to see the day I can't control my own bladder, I'd rather die right now.) So based on this, is 40,000-50,000 out of college okay? Then assuming I get a raise every now and then, just what does one need to live a decent life?
