Default Looking for an old NES game, need help.

When I was 7 years old, my parents bought me an NES from a thrift shop, and it came with a few games. I am having trouble remembering the title of one of the games, but I can describe a unique part of it. It was a side-scroller, but you could stop at shops along the way, and a girl would greet you. She could sell you items, give you the news, etc. If you said you wanted to buy something and canceled 3 times, she would glare at you and kick you out. Can anyone help me remember the title of this game? (Old skool gamers, help me out!)

Do you mean River City Ransom? It is a side-scrolling beat'em up and you can stop at shops to buy items.

Nope, the game I'm thinking of was just a linear side scroller. The time period of the game was probably very early A.D. It was sword and magic based gameplay. And no, it wasn't castlevania either. Oh yeah, the first level involved you jumping up a mountain, and at the top there was a palace. When I was 8, I could never get past the palace.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace was a side-scrolling action platformer based losely on chinese mythology... You'd get coins from enemies and enter a shop where a cute girl would sell you stuff and give you the latest developments on the Princess' kidnapping, too (complete with full anchorman get-up and such). The first level involved climbing up a mountain filled with pits, floating platforms, waterfalls and such, and at the top, there was a palace with a huge guardian...

You also had a buddy dog who'd help you out (though I can't remember how exactly you could summon him... ), and could use magic scrolls and such.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about this one...
