Default PC Restarts on certain tasks.

    Okay.

    Here's the problem.

Lately, whenever i've tried to author a dvd or play a game (Football Manager 2005, that kinda thing), my PC just restarts.

    Here are my specs;

    nFORCE2 Motherboard
    1024mb DDR Ram at 333mhz
    1x 40gb (Seagate i think :-\) Hard drive
    1x 120gb (can't remember) Hard Drive
ATi Radeon 9700 Graphics card with Omega 2.5.2 drivers or something.
Windows XP Home & Pro have both been tried.

I've tried it on a new installation of windows, same problem.

    Any ideas?

Cooling problems? Over-heated hardware sometimes causes that. Like when you try to play games or watch movies: that uses a lot of processor power (on video card too) and causes more heat.

Another thing would be too little power supply.

Power supply has worked fine for absolute months.

The hardware is cool enough, it's not gotten any hotter lately.

Have you updated the drivers lately? Or can you remember what you have done when the problem started to appear?

Not certain about authoring DVDs, but my computer used to restart whenever I played a game. I ended up reinstalling DirectX, and that solved the problem.

In addition to these other suggestions, if you haven't already done so, scan your comp for viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, malware, dialers, etc.
All kinds of nasty crap out there (speaks from personal experience)

I'm in the process of reinstalling DirectX, i'll see if that will do the trick.

I'm also running Disk Defragmenter, see if that will solve anything.

Other than that, are there any other suggestions?

Oh and i have scanned for viruses, worms, trojans, etc, and nothing helped.

    Thanks.

Now it's regularly showing a BSOD... strange.

Yeah, it's a stop OXthen a large amount of zero's, then something like 8e or e8. I can't remember exactly.
