Playing games while listening to your own music(in game control?)

Does anybody know any plugins/apps/scripts available that let you play your mp3s while playing games on Steam? I'm looking for something that can be controlled from inside the game in a menu, not having to minimize the game and click a few buttons on Winamp. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd also like to know if there's something like this available for Quake III Arena, listening to Morbid Angel while playing that Q3 is just awesome.

Winamp5 has "Global hotkeys" that let you control it anytime. Although some games seem to reserve the whole keyboard to themselves so that even CTRL+ALT+DEL won't work. Then you can't of course use those Global hotkeys. But I have always used them. My configuration is to hold CTRL and some key from numeric keyboard, like CTRL+6 moves to next title and CTRL+4 goes to previous. I have key combinations for all basic tasks assigned.

BTW, where are you playing on Q3, and which version? I coul just pass by and kick some butts ya know...

But you don't need to install WinAmp5 for it to work. It should work with old WinAmp 2.xx versions too. Haven't tested it though.

All right, I'll look into the global hotkeys thing, but I really want to see menu ingame. I knew of this old plugin called HL Amp, which was an ingame menu to control winamp, but that only worked with Half-Life/Counter-Strike/mods back before there was Steam. There might be something similar nowadays, I'm just hesitant to run a script on Steam and be detected as a cheater and be banned for 5 years...

Yes. Q3 is a different story for me, but my skill in HL is quite nice. Wouldn't say I'm too bad at CS either.

polobunny, I'm playing the most current Q3. Where can I find this script? I still want an ingame menu. >.<

Sounds cool, I'll use them if I'm desperate to listen to something while playing, but for now I'll look for a menu thinger.

Did you enjoy getting your ass kicked in HL? I was kicked from the server... for being too damned good.

i just pop the cd in the D drive and turn the music off in the game

You can also try a keyboard with those hot-keys, ya know. I have one of those, the buttons are working perfectly, but I dunno if it works while you're in a game.

there used to be a plugin called hlamp.

it was for non-steam though, and I'm not sure if it works for steam or if they're made a steam compatible version.
