Default Emulating Super Robot Wars Alpha

Does anybody know an emulator that works with Super Robot Wars Alpha? I keep having the infamous freezing problem (game either stops in mid-conversation or crashes to black screen after battle.) Some people have recommended VGS, but I have both XP and a P4 (double trouble) and even with the patches it just locks up my system, requiring me to actually unplug the computer to get it to restart.

    Anybody?

PSXeven. <---- ePSXe would not run that game.

No dice. With PSXEven it crashes even more quickly than ePSXe.

PSXeven heavily depends on the OS you are using. I suggest you post your plugin settings and configuration.

Uhh. Guys, I just beat it with ePSXE. Describe the problems you're having.

I can run SRWA perfectly on epsxe too. It is probably either the iso or the version of epsxe you have. Which version are you using now?

I've tried running the game on both 1.52 and 1.60.

With ePSXe the game hangs during the conversation after the first "real" mission. I don't know exactly what's being discussed, but Henken and the hero are the two characters on the screen. Henken was the last to speak, and when the music changed to a sad tune everything stopped moving forward - although both characters kept blinking.

With PSXEven the game hangs at a black screen immediately following the introductory battle.

Okay, that has happened to me a few times in the game, but I think it's just the thing loading. Wait for a while, like, 5 minutes tops. If you look in the corner of the text box, eventually the little red arrow will reappear showing that you can continue. Oh, and it also helps not to hold the start button down to speed through conversations, and instead just hit x repeatedly.

Do you play from an ISO, or direct from the CD?

Edit: Well, that's a great big negative. Left it running for over an hour while I was in class. No change. Were you able to use savestates, or did you have to do a "clean" run through the game?

    Re-edit: Double. You. Tee. Eff.
Tried it again using 1.60 (I normally use 1.52, since 1.60 made bad things happen with the music in some games) and it suddenly worked - where it definitely hadn't worked before. Weird. Maybe you really CAN'T use savestates...

Here's what I did to finish the game. There are several near unavoidable freeze points throughout the game such as Minmay singing and Shinji talking to Misato. In order to get by these you must use Epsxe 1.52 to get past some points and for the unavoidable ones you must make a save state before the freeze and hit the start key at the exact right moment to skip over the freeze. This is hard but with a save state and lots of effort it can be done. Good Luck.

    I'm BACK!

Well, it's taken some finagling but I've made it at last to the 61st mission (well, it's actually the end of the 60th.) During a cutscene on Bodolzar's ship Minmei starts singing, and the game promptly hangs. I've been trying to do the "hit-start-at-the-right-moment" trick, but it hasn't been working so far. The thing is that there's actually another sound clip that plays as well - there's a rumbling noise of some kind, and THEN the singing starts without any text in between. Do I need to hit start for one sound, or the other, or both, or...?

Bah. Finally cobbled together a working version of VGS and played through the sequence with that.
