Default A thought on post-count requirements...

I was thinking of maybe boosting the post-count requirement for the requests forum up to 100 posts, like it used to be about a year and a half ago. Keeping the trade forum at 25 posts would be be a good idea too, since it's odd when someone with only 1 post offers a trade. Maybe raising this a bit too would help in keeping out leechers. Just a thought.

I think the current limit is quite alright, actually. Don't know about the Trading Post one, though... No restriction on that sounds fair to me, but I haven't thought it over very much.

I don't know... forcing people to stick around (even for a little while) doesn't seem like a good idea....
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
and speak my point of view
    But its not sane..
I just want some one to say to me
Ill always be there when you wake
Ya know Id like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and Ill have it made
And I dont understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that theres no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away but its a great escape..
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain...

Seems like a good idea to me. Clean out some newbies.

Agreed. That might make them not want to trade at all.

I dont see why it matters in trade as people can choose to trade with who they like (or which requests to fulfil for that matter). But I'm not happy about the bittorrent forum being locked, after downloading a 500MB file, uploading most of it to 12+ other clients while waiting for the last 4% and then finding it to be corrupt. I did notice before being locked out of the forum that reports of bad files are met with derision and the files left on the tracker anyway. But perhaps there could be an open forum where reports can be made (benefits older members anway) and research can be made before deciding to download.

I suppose it would be a good idea to create a sub-forum for new members, for the purpose of complaining about bad files and whatnot. It's certainly something to consider....

Yeah it's a pretty good idea, creating a sub-forum where reports can be made is sounds ok.

But I agree with skinner, the current post-count limit is alright.

Yeah, it is. I can't imagine the complaints we'd get if we raised it to 100. Actually, I can. Hell, we get enough complaints as it stands, and back in the day, people were screaming bloody murder at the thought of having to get to 100 posts.

    True.

But it'll also cause more newbie-spam to get the 100 posts.

True. That's something the staff would be prepared to deal with should we ever decide to go that route. No, it's not the spam that's an issue, just that...100 posts does seem to be a little high a requirement. In the old days, it worked. Things have changed since then, and I just don't see the need for such a high requirement myself.

I remember when the requirement was high. I just figured, ah, I'll post a bit and then I'll be able to download. But then I got to the point where I didn't care about the d/ls and just wanted to stay for the community.

    25 seems sufficient to me.

Well, maybe bump it up a little, but not to 100. Say 50?
